love love love this race.  2 lap 5km race which must be done in 20 mins. If you're not halfway in. 10 mins you are pulled out of the race. Sounds easy enough? Well the first half of each lap is uphill too. Huge support as 25000 people are waiting to see the city centre carnival go through straight after. If you are quick enough, do it.

a lovely well organised and unique race. Easy to register, easy to find as a local tourist attraction so just follow the brown signs. Plenty of free parking on site, 30m from start.Easy pick up of race number, on site shop and cafe. You run alongside the little train so I brought tickets for my family and dog so was really nice when the train past a couple of times. Plenty of space to overtake runners and walkers.finish line was at the end of the line, a point to pint race with a free train ride back to the start which was brilliant. Toilets at each end and water and nice little medal.really enjoyed this race.

Very well organised, friendly supportive marshalls and a very quick flat course.Worth doing just for the amazing cake selection afterwards.
  • Did the event in 2017

This race has the unique factor of being ran round an old RAF airbase. Using the perimeter runway and part of the main runway it takes you on a two lap course. Whilst seeming relatively flat. This course is actually quite challenging with cross winds providing a challenge at some point on the course. Praise to Coltishall Jaguars for making the most of this wonderful gem in Norfolk. It is a good race to run if you are looking for a PB.

great event to do as a family, did this event for the first time with my 9 year old daughter and she enjoyed every second. Massive area to park, easy quick registration and overall well organised. Not enough toilets and they had run out of certain size tshirts so we had to have larger sizes than we would have liked but a minor gripe. Course wound around the grounds and gardens of Hoveyon Hall which is beautiful. Flat course, quite a lot off road. One water stop at half way. Plenty of opportunity to get covered in powder paint and a medal and water at the finish. Nice to do an event that everyone can take part in.

Another great time at Fritton Lake Triathlon Weekend. Last year I completed the 'Triple-Tri Challenge' but this year I only participated in the super-sprint as hip OA means I don't run anymore but thought I could just about manage a 2.5k run...and I did. Rare opportunity too to get to swim in open water in such a short race (400m) in a nice lake. Whilst some of the road surfaces on the ride aren't great I enjoyed the short loop, it was marshalled superbly & I achieved a similar time to last year. The off road run seemed longer than 2.5k to my legs that hadn't run a yard for 6 months but the dry conditions, supportive marshalls & scenery made it almost enjoyable! I supported a mate who completed all three races & the whole weekend was a great success. Almost perfect weather conditions, this well organised, scenic & friendly event is ideal for all-comers in my opinion. There probably is scope to have a few more stalls/things to look at especially on the Saturday for those who are doing all events with time to kill, without detracting from the pleasant atmosphere/nature of this event.

    Organiser replied:
Hi David, Great to see you back and competing and many thanks for such a comprehensive review. We're really pleased our marshal teams had a positive impact on so many competitors. It was great to see many competitors and supporters relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Fritton Lake between races but we will take your comments on board re stalls. Hope we'll see you again in 2019!

The race took place on the hottest day of the year so far! A winter of training in horrible weather left me dramatically unprepared for the heat but luckily it was my first race representing #visorclub and the visor was very much appreciated. The start location had plenty of loos for the number of racers and registration was very quick. A short race briefing (watch out for snakes and deer!) and we were off. The route took us along the Little Ouse through Thetford until CP2 (turn around for the half marathon) when we went off into Thetford forest for 3-4miles and then back along the river into Brandon and the turn around point. The course was great with lovely running along the side of the river and through the forest although a number of people got lost (myself included!). Most of the people who got lost missed a turn off which wasn't marked (luckily I got to it as someone was retracing their steps having run a mile out of their way!). I managed to get lost at about 21 miles making the decision to turn right when the route carried straight ahead (no idea why, probably the heat!) so added a mile onto my total. The checkpoints (7 in total) were stocked with fruit, crisps, sweets and gels as well as lots of water, squash and coke. I couldn't face much in the way of food (I only had some carrot sticks at mile 20!) but there was plenty of fluids on offer which was important given the heat.At the finish there was a big medal and more water waiting for me as well as my four year old cheering me over the line as he had commandeered the PA system for the finish!A great day even if it was longer than planned and much slower than hoped for! I'll be back next year to make sure I do a better job next time!

May bank holiday and it’s one of the hottest days, with the race starting at 11.00! A pretty, hilly course around the country roads, with the marshalls doing a fantastic job at keeping us all going in that heat! I didn’t park at the venue, however seemed organised from what I saw. Registration was quick and easy. With only 1 drink station, I was happy to see it! 1 for me, 1 for my head

Irishman Sammy Daye of Atlas Running has bought his race concept to England in conjuction with Challenge Running. A 4.1 mile loop and 1 hour to complete the loop. Easy right!? Last One Standing is held at Knettishall Heath park just outside of Thetford on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. It is very easy to find and the parking area is huge and just a short walk to race HQ. HQ is set within a meadow where tents can be set up, start/finish is situated, portaloos, registration, food and first aid is all conveniently placed. The route follows an exceptionally well marked route and even I didn't get lost!! A combination of gravelled track way and mud/soil paths. It is quite firm and even with overnight rain drained well. Next time i would use a cushioned shoe and possibly even a goretex style if it was wet. Checkpoint food was the usual crisps/biscuits/sweets/fruit combination with pasta served at dinner time and porridge and bacon sandwiches at breakfast time a selection of hot and cold drinks was available too. So, every hour, on the hour you set off on a loop. If you return by 59m 59s you are still in the race, turn up at 1 hour or more and you are removed from the race. Then just keep going..and going..and going. Mentally i found it fine, at night time there was some wildlife about but personally that isn't a worry it was all mostly heard rather than seen. Being a small field of entrants it was a very friendly and supportive race with everyone being very encouraging. If you fancy a weekend camping and slowly but surely testing how much distance you could do off road this would be a great option for you.
