Very pleasant, well organised sportive. Excellent value for money.  Lovely place to start as well.    Would have liked to have had some flapjack at the end for those of us who don't stop at the feed stations, I missed out and I heard it was ace!   Also, a couple more waymarkers after the feed stations would have been useful.  As so many people stopped to eat, those of us who didn't had a couple of 'is this the right way?' moments as there was no-one around and suddenly no waymarkers!

This run was a well organised, very scenic and friendly run. Organisation was great, pre run details sent out were spot on and precise. The drink stations on the way round were plentiful for a very hot day. The local scouts were running one of them and they were great and encouraging. There was also a sponge stop too which I was very grateful for.The run is not on closed roads, however I did not feel unsafe at any time. They are rural roads, the marshals were plentiful and they were giving plenty of warning about both cars and runners as needed. There is a cut off time of 3 hours for the run. There was a fab medal at the end and I did need to see the first aiders at the end who did an amazing job.2 small problems:there was a timing issue so the results were late coming out and then there were some discrepancies. However a quick email and it was quickly rectified. All the photos are free to download, however if you are a slower runner there isn't many photos and none at the finish line. The person who finished about 2 mins in front of me was the last person to be photographed. I finished in 2hrs 40, well within the time limit.

  • Did the Middle in 2018

I think the organisers should've said the swim MAY be non wetsuit. I brought mine with me just in case but lots didn't. There wasn't much support from Marshalls on the bike route, one on a tight corner sat in his car the whole time literally paying no attention to the race. Another I told a competitor needed assistance, the Marshall didn't seem to know what to do. To top it all off the run was over a mile short? Couldn't we have added an extra lap?
  • Did the Sprint in 2018

Very late start meant family hanging around longer also messed with pre race nutrition. Transition not very organized with regards to bike racking. Very poor.
  • Did the Olympic in 2018

The note about it being a non wet suit swim was confusing and if you had said it 'may' be a non wet suit swim then all those who didn't bring theirs may have done, I did have mine.

Fantastic 100+ mile ride in the Peak District and high Praks . 9500 ft climbing made for a tough day in the saddle but well worth the effort for a stunning bike ride.

I enjoyed this event, I know many people dont like laps as it can be boring, but it has its advantages as you nearly always have company, And easier to pace yourself, the only complaint the car park at 5 pound is a bit much, I managed to pay at reception, but was frustrated at the car park as a debit card was wanted to park as a runner I dont take my cards with me.
  • Did the Marathon in 2018

Great organisation! Yes the course is a little dull BUT there were toilets every mile, a well stocked feed station with water, electrolytes and food every lap and the course was flat. Perfect for me as a first timer

Really well organised and good communication near the date so was easy to access the information on the day. Some loos near the car park would have been really helpful - to help you get organised before you got on your bike. Apart from that everything was great and lovely homemade granola and sandwiches on route. Thank you team!

my second time at Nottingham sprint and this year it was an ETU qualifier, so Everyman and his disc wheel and pointy helmet was here. The water was lovely and warm, perfect conditions. The organisers do a fantastic job and the set up Is fabulous. The bike course is 4 laps of the 2k lake, so just under 20k. Closed roads, flat and straight...don’t forget to save something in the tank for the 1 loop 5k run of the lake before hitting the red carpet finish.
  • Did the event in 2017

I first raced this event in 2015 as a qualifier and enjoyed the event. The field was much smaller with it not being a qualifier this year, shame as its a great event and run well (like all OSB events).  OSB events always run smoothly and are well organised which is exactly what you want on race day. Swim was chilly (about 14 degrees), one large loop and nice wave sizes so there wasnt as much violence in the swim as most open water swim starts. The bike was 4 laps round the lake, surface isnt great but its still a nice fast flat circuit. The run is a flat and fairly fast but draining when you feel like your not getting closer to the finish as you can see it for almost all the 5km run as its one lap round the lake. Nice atmosphere and the event was run smoothly start to finish despite the awful weather. Also a great event for spectators as you get to see all the swim, 4 times on the bike and can see on the run so get to watch most the race. Would recommend to all ability athletes.

A beautiful 4 mile course in the beautiful Rushcliffe country park. We set off after a short pre-run briefing consisting of “it’s pretty hot so if you feel like you’re going to collapse, stop running just before you do” – wise words! Thankfully there was quite a lot of shade as the course took us through trails and wooded sections as well as a few more exposed areas of fields and hills. It was a lovely undulating route with varied terrain and I felt very thankful to have forced myself out for an evening’s running in such beautiful surroundings, rather than being sat on the sofa watching TV moaning about how hot it is (typically British). This was the first of a series of four races, you can read my full review on my blog!

Great course around a very scenic park. Lovely t-shirt and medal. Will definitely do this event again next year.

An enjoyable event, well worth doing. We arrived for registration on a rainy morning. Parking was easy, although charged at £2.50, in the grounds of the school that hosted the race.  Marshalls were directing cars, so the whole process was easy. Race numbers were ready and waiting in the marquee in the race village, along with timing chips which were fixed to trainers with the ties provided. In the hour before the race was due to start, most people were using the various tents and tree cover to shelter from the rain.  As the organised warm up began though the sun came out and the day brightened up.  The start line was a couple of hundred yards away from the grounds of the school. The race briefing was not able to be heard by the majority of runners. The excellent PA system in the school grounds was replaced for this by the starter with a megaphone, which all but the runners at front couldn't hear, so i do not know what the briefing consisted of.  This was the only negative of the whole day though. The route was described as 'undulating', which was bang on. No big climbs but 3 or 4 ups and downs as the route progressed around the lovely grounds of Wollaton Park.  Marshalls were plenty and they were very supportive and encouraging.  Three water stations was plenty on the 2 laps of 5k route. For the £20 entry fee we received a technical race T Shirt, a very nice medal and a 5 day pass to the Virgin Active Helath Club, which I would describe as good value.  The race is certainly recommended and I will be returning.

Getting up at four in the morning is not my idea of fun at the best of times, but getting up this early for a race well…I had heard lots about the Sunrise 5k, so was willing to give it ago! Along with hundreds of other people! As it was early in the morning it was easy to find a parking spot along the streets of Nottingham. We were all grouped together and as soon as you noticed the people ahead of you were off, no race briefing? Unless you were lucky enough to be at the front. Now I am not one of the faster runners, hardly! I was more or less at the back!! There weren’t many marshals around but when it came to crossing some of the main roads in Nottingham we were herded across traffic lights with people stopping the minimal early morning traffic into Nottingham. From those closer to the front they faced bottle necks as everyone tried to get around the corner at once! Though this route was unique because of the earliness of it, I am pretty sure the Nottingham 10k’s follow much of the same route.Though there was plenty of signage, parkrun felt better marshalled! As I came towards the end of the race and it was just a case of following those in front of you. Had all the marshalls given up or were they poorly staffed? From a businesses I expected more! The registration for the process was pretty easy, with the option of picking your t-shirt up the day before. But again if anyone had an issue during the race of collapsed how would they know who I was with no number assigned to me. Yes we all filled in the registration process but think lone person at the back no marshals around? Like I said Parkrun is better marshalled!Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the experience and will most certainly sign up next year, I just worry more about what could have gone wrong!
  • Did the event in 2018

I had ran the Derby in 2017 and was looking forward to running the Nottingham version this year. Great value for money and my son was able to run it with me this year which he loved as he normally isn't old enough. Collecting the t-shirts the day before made it easier on the morning. I wasn't on the initial entrants list, however an e-mail to the office and they confirmed my entry straight away. On the morning we arrived and it was already busy. I felt that there were too many people in the area where we were gathered. This was the same through the course and there were lots of bottle necks at various points. The marshalls all the way round were great and very encouraging, even taking some unwanted hassle from people who were held up. I would definitely do another sunrise run again  but would do the Derby again instead of Nottingham just because it is less busy.
  • Did the event in 2017

This was the second year that I did this 5:30 run and there are a lot of improvements this year, especially in regards to the t-shirt and medal (which is awesome). The medal is really unique and provided by virtual running. I really like that you can rotate the sun to represent sunrise and sunset. It’s not a feature you really ever see on a race medal.I really enjoyed the fresh fruit provided at the end. It was all of high quality and a nice way to finish an early morning run.The marshals were really energetic (especially for that time in the morning) and really friendly. There were plenty placed over the course and stationed in key positions on the course. I did expect some sort of warm-up at the beginning especially considering the time of morning to ensure everybody was awake and ready for the run. It also would have bene helpful to have an area for those who were planning on walking the route behind the runners. There was a large group of walkers near the front of the start area who walked in a fairly straight line right at the beginning, it was difficult to get around them and a lot of runners were having to dodge each other as they tried to get around them. There were also some fairly narrow paths/turns fairly early on. The worst pile up was as we turned to get onto the canal path by the pub. There were quite a few near misses as you come around the corner fairly wide only to be faced with running into a bush or another runner. I’m not quite sure how that could be avoided, maybe taking the route a bit more into the car park. With so many runners it could be a bit of a hazard. Perhaps some signs for next year stating narrow turn etc, would be helpful. Overall a really friendly and well organised event. I cannot praise the marshals enough, I can’t imagine what time they had to be up this morning but they were very cheery and supportive.Events like this really bring out the best in people and it is a great way to explore the city with minimal traffic. The comradery amongst the runners was brilliant. It isn’t easy getting up and running at 5:30 in the morning, especially up those last two hills. The runners were all encouraging each other to make it up that last little bit before the home stretch. I highly recommend this event to all. It is a lot of fun, and such a nice way to explore the city (especially canal area) safely in the morning.

  • Did the 10k in 2017

This race is part of the annual Grand Prix - a series of four races in 10 days organised by Holme Pierrepont Running Club and taking place in a selection of scenic parks around Nottingham. The first is 4 miles, in Rushcliffe Country Park, then this very flat and fast 10k at the National Water Sports Centre; next comes a certified 5k on the Trent Embankment - a beautiful, riverside flat course and finally a 5 mile race suing part of Colwick racecourse and the Colwick Country Park. The 10k is a very popular race, and often sells out. This year it also doubles as the Nottinghamshire AAA County Championship 10k. The organisation was brilliant last year, with cheering, friendly marshals, seemingly everywhere and friendly water stations in just the right places. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone, whether aiming for a fast, flat PB-potential race or just looking for a friendly fun run in the massed pack.

  • Did the event in 2018

This was my first Woodhouse May Day Challenge despite the event being in its 10th year. It’s a small, chip timed race with about 600 entrants split between walkers and runners across the hills and lanes of Charnwood in Leicestershire. It’s slightly more than a half marathon and comes in at 13.5 miles with a variety of terrain but mostly trail. There are two notable tarmac sections, one long uphill inside the first 2 miles and then the long tarmac path that crosses the beautiful Bradgate Park. Getting to the event has to be done by road and there is ample on street parking or you can park in a field provided by the organisers, a short walk from the start. The event starts at the Woodhouse Eaves village hall which is also where you collect your race numbers on the day. Tea and coffee is available for the runners before the off and there is a friendly atmosphere all round. The walkers set off at 8:30am and the runners at 9:30 which means the fastest walkers and runners are coming in at similar times. The organisation was excellent and extra water stops had been added to account for it being the hottest May Day on record. As well as water and juice, there was flapjack, jelly babies and most usefully, buckets of water with sponges in you could use to cool yourself down. The martials were all excellent and allowed us to efficiently cross the few roads that we had to and worked really hard out in the sun all day.The closing stretch of the 13.5 mile course has you climbing up hill back into Woodhouse Eaves and circling around the edge of a field behind the village hall. This is where most of the spectators are and as you cross the finish line they call in your name over the loud speaker: ‘representing Shepperton Running Group, number 17 Jonathan Ashdown’ etc which is a nice touch. There is no medal for this event but there is always a momento, in previous years there have been tshirts, this year it is a soft draw cord trainer bag. Personally I prefer this. Bling is nice but I like getting other things I can actually use. Anyway, the bag is only the start! Staggering weary legged back up to the village hall about 100m from the finish, all competitors receive free food. This year it was a delicious chilli backed potato! There is also an enormous spread of free sandwiches and hundreds of homemade cakes, biscuits and fruit. Tea, coffee, water and squash is all complimentary... but that’s not all! Comllimentary massages for all competitors is a really nice touch and something a lot of people take up. I had one and it was brilliant. They ask if there is a certain area you want them to work on (I had hamstrings) and then they work on each person for 15 minutes or so. There are collection buckets for local charities in the tea room (separate from the massages) but you are under no pressure to donate. There is also a pay as you go BBQ for non competitors which is very reasonably priced. For £18 you struggle to find a better value for money race. It was friendly, fun and a great way to spend the May bank holiday! My thanks go out to the organisers! Highly recommended!!!

My first event since being diagnosed with hip osteoarthritis & having to stop running. Kindly asked by a mate if I could do the bike leg of the relay for his lad who was just under the age limit for the ride & very pleased to oblige. As my young team mate's swim & run times were fantastic & my ride time was reasonable we came first! There were only 7 relay teams of varying abilities but very chuffed to have won something for the first & likely only time!Despite much colder & breezier than ideal most participants seemed in good spirits. The organisation of a large pool sprint event (up to 500 entrants) with all the staggered starts seemed good given the complexity & comings/goings of competitors.I'm always impressed by OSB events & today was no different. As my first time 'relay' I sought the guidance of a friendly marshal in transition to reinforce the handover process/rules & was reassured. I did my bit on a mostly flat, well signed & marshalled 14 mile cycle route, pleased with my time (as only been up to 10 miles a couple of times in preparation) but wondered afterwards if I could have pushed a little harder. I wasn't looking forward to a stretch near the end on a busy bypass but hadn't realised that a full lane was coned off for the event which was brilliant.  The run was along a riverside tow path, mate's who did the race all ran good times & my teammate was fast along it, so I didn't hear any complaints! Parking a fair way (15-20 minute walk) away from the location wasn't ideal, especially as wet/muddy/cold, but had it been a lovely spring day I suspect I would not have minded at all.Overall another really good @OSBevents race.

Great hassle free registration.Very busy in the pool. The cycle was long and windy, with a cracking hill. A long flat 5k to finish with.only fly in the ointment was people's lack of awareness to what someone tapping your toes meant in the pool and the idiot on the TT bike who thought undertaking was acceptable. Will be interesting to see if he is penalised as he did it in front of a motorcycle Marshallhttps://wordpress.com/read/feeds/46303095/posts/1013284617

This was my first Tough Mudder - I really enjoyed mixing it up; I usually do more conventional running events so it was great to challenge myself more!  The ice obstacle was the only one I wouldn't love to do again(!) but otherwise everything was doable for me if you attacked it and all worked together.  There were 2 obstacles I genuinely couldn't do as I'm physically not big enough (at 4'10 I didn't have the reach for the monkey bars!)The warm up and start line briefing were great - covered the important safety stuff without being dull, and really set us on our way!  Not the cheapest event but would definitely recommend :)

Right first things first, I have been building up to this since November last year. That's a huge amount of time to let the voices in you're head tell you, that you can't do it. Especially from someone that signed up to do it before I could even run for a minute. This race/run/challenge is a huge amount of fun. The scenery is beautiful and yes it's muddy and yes you'll get wet but you will have a smile on your face doing it. The nature of the course and the ethos behind it is that it's not a race and as a result it feels like a collaborative effort between all people taking part to ensure that everyone reaches the finish line. In fact there are obstacles that just can't be done on your own but that in its self just adds to the fun. Overall I would say if your looking for a challenge that's different from the norm then Tough Mudder is well worth the money time and effort.

Completed my 2nd Tough Mudder on the 12th May. This infamous event has, electric shocks and ice baths but the standout element is the teamwork and camaraderie around the course. There is no focus on time. Just having fun and helping other when possible. Over ten miles with some of the toughest obstacles this is no joke. Despite this it's the most fun I've ever had at an OCR race. Highly recommended.

It's intense. I know Tough Mudder isn't traditionally associated with extreme racing but this is genuinely really hard. I made a bit of an impulsive last minute decision to do it so didn't have any of the gear and having the right gear makes a massive difference. 2 main things are a really bright head torch (brighter the better) and clothes that don't get heavy with water (I had cotton tracksuit bottoms and a t shirt - disasterous). Lots of people are kitted up with good lycra and good head torches - that's definitely the way forward. Also the guys who crushed it had support teams there - it's pretty savage going for that long so the support team really does help!!

Yet another very hot racing day in 2018. Could be a fast course in different conditions.
Quite a lot of runners were struggling with the temperatures on this day - there was plenty of water, but there seemed a lot of areas on route with no cover - can't really be helped. Medical staff were needed for a few people and did a grand job as far as I could tell.
Starting and finishing at Pride Park was a nice touch - the course went through the city for the first half, and the second half was more along the river, which was really nice.
Free medal engraving was an added bonus and well worth queuing for.

thought the second half of the route through Elvaston Castle park and along the river was very lovely and a nice change from the road. Great local support and very well staffed. A great experience for my first half.

This year was a slightly different course to last year and had twice as many participants, too.The course consisted of circuits of the park, a road section and a canal side section. The course was narrow in parts but this did not cause much of a problem, although my sister was hit rather heavily on the elbow by someone who was pushing through’s mobile phone. The last 100 metres of the race was on rather muddy grass which did slow down any sprint finish. The weather was cold and wet but it was still an enjoyable race.At the end of the race, we were presented with a rather large medal, a banana and some water.I’m looking forward to the Stratford version of the race in September.

Second year I have done this event although the course had been altered slightly this year. Its basicly a lap within the Park, a lap on the road running around the edge of the park (one part closed road the second part a coned of lane) along the canal tow path back into the park for another lap back onto the road cut through the park onto the tow path again back into the park for the finish. At the start there is no particular area for different ability runners so you will find yourself either dodging around people or being dodged round by quicker runners but once the first kilometer is out the way things settle down. There is one water station provided at 5k and this year they had mini bottles of water which I liked perfect fit for the hand and not as much waste. Plenty of people at points within the park to cheer you on. Chunky medal at the finish along with water and bananas.
