    About the event
    From the organiser

Rough Runner at the Great Tew Estate has been a favourite event in the running calendar for 4 years, with the most picturesque backdrop, varied terrain and atmospheric runners village you can come by.

The venue makes for an awesome running route, and as always, we cater to every level of fitness, so well have a 5km route with around 10 obstacles, a 10km route with 15, and all 20 obstacles on our 15km route if youre up for the toughest challenge. We never do laps at Rough Runner, but everyone who joins us for the game show-inspired journey will cross the Travelator at the finish line. So you can consider that particular childhood dream fulfilled!

The venue is readily accessible from London, Oxford, Birmingham, and most of the Midlands!

One of the most enjoyable OCR. Completed the 10km route with my wife.  Some fun obstacles that we both enjoyed. The run was tough - some difficult terrain and steep inclines.
    • Did the event in 2016

After two years of completing very muddy Nuclear Races unique brand of OCR we opted for a change and decided to look for something more fun oriented and slightly less muddy! (Not my choice...I love the mud!)I found out about Rough Runner thanks to being a total targeted marketing victim on Facebook and it popping up on my feed. The colourful picture of the travelator well and truly piqued my interest and I was soon able to put together a little family team. The online registration was a little clunky when trying to book us all on the same waves etc and then add t-shirt to our order (have to buy them seperatley) but I managed to sort that with only one or two annoyed sighs. All the info came through on e-mail and was pretty clear, I pre-ordered t-shirts which was straighforward enough as was collecting them and swapping sizes etc. I am so glad i bought a t-shirt...they are so distincitve its easy for people to spot you at other events! They are good quality and decently priced. in terms of organisation on the day I thought it was pretty good, lots of car parking and lots of loo's which is usually my first indicator of how well an event will be organised! The little race village had plenty of food and drink outlets with pretty standard pricing. It also had an excellent view of the last obstacle which was the travelator which was great. The atmosphere was pleasant, everyone was there for a bit of fun as opposed to being serious 'mud runners' although there were a few 'touch mudder' t-shirts on show. I personally thought they looked a bit daft as this is far from a hardcore OCR. The course itself was utterly stunning, there was a fair bit of running involved between obstancles and the terrain was undulating however it was thoroughly pleasant. The obstacles were mostly situated in inflatable pools so if you fall you fall into grubby water which you can easily stand up in and they were none too troubling..nothing too high etc I personally would have liked to have had a few more obstacles to break up some of the running. We did the 10k and there were a few extra obstacles on the 15k that we didn't get to do; I thought this was amshame as you could see them as you ran passed, it was a bit of a fittness tease!I have only two very minor criticisms. The first one being the lack of robust marshalling - some of the obstacles attracted quit large queues when people struggled to do them but just wouldn't give up...and either needed some marshall motivation or to be told just to drop to avoid the queues forming. I'm all for people facing their fear and trying things but not at the expense of lots of other people who are wet through and likely to get cold and ill when stopping for too long. The second one was the photgraphs, this is sadly themeatic with lots of events but the pricing was extortionate and on a course which it was quite difficult for spectators to see you on multiple obstacles it was sad not to be able to caputre the moments. That being said their coverage was pretty good although we posed for a family photo that never appeared which was annoying. The showers and changing rooms at the end were brilliant, this is the only event that I have been too with hot and powerful showers! Genius! They could have done with a few more to avoid the queues but I for one was happy to wait a while and pay for their use plus it made me more inclined to chill out in the event village afterwards. i'd thoroughly reccomend this event for anyone thinking about trying an obstacle course race that isn't too serious or too muddy. This is refelcted in their simplistic medal which doubles as a bottle opener. I thought it was good value for money but they could re-consider the amount charged for photos; especially when you consider the fact that the more phots out their the more publicity via social media you get!

    • Did the Half Marathon in 2018

Beautiful course, highly recommend. Lacked basic organisation though. Timing chip wasn't as per the information we'd been given, PA system didn't work so 10k and half marathon runners didn't know where they needed to be (started in different places). Started 15 minutes late so needed to use the loo by the time we set off. Lead rider tried to give brief to runners but didn't even have a loud haler (even park run can do that!). Water stops not well manned, people queuing for water and stewards kept putting their hands into the bucket to get the water out, not very hygenic. Very few Marshalls out on route (only a couple) and route very badly signed; at 10 miles lots of runners got lost as there was just one arrow pointed across a few fields but no path across and no clear exit. Relying on following other runners but can't tell if they are going wrong. Race distance also came up short.Feel the organisers cash in on the location but much better planning needed.

    About the event
    From the organiser

The Marlow 5 has been an established event in the town since 1984. For the first few years of its existence it started and finished at the Marlow Football Club ground in Oaktree Road, rather than in Higginson Park, as it does now. When it moved to Higginson Park, it quickly became a very popular event, not least because it is a virtually flat course with glimpses of the beautiful River Thames, the majestic Marlow bridge and the picturesque lock. In fact it is so popular that, for the second year in a row, the Marlow 5 has been chosen by the Berkshire County AA as its 5 mile championship.

Handy Cross Runners and their team of Marshalls look forward to welcoming you to this iconic event on May 12th 2019.

Second time I have done this race and it doesn’t disappoint, plenty of carparks about the town to get parked up,sort  walk down to the park then to collect number and chip time, drop off bag and your good to good, race starts in the park then comes out onto the high street and into some residential areas, plenty of Marshall’s about and small crowds of local support, 1 water stop at the half way point just before u go up a bit of an incline the only one in the race, so mostly flat good PB potential, great medal, t shirt and goody bag after it with free photos of the race online, will definitely do it again
    • Did the event in 2018

Starts in Higginson Park with a great number pickup/bag drop area, fantastic atmosphere! Starts along the High Street, goes through residential areas - great support throughout - then  into a business park with one long up and downhill after which is a bit draining as the rest is so flat. Then back through a lot of the same roads as the beginning so more cheering and back to the park.Mostly closed roads and diligently marshalled (although some idiot drivers still tried to get through despite multiple signs) it’s a friendly fast fun race that at 5 miles is a good distance for anyone who’s not confident at longer yet. Loved it - will be back

That said the orgainser was amazing and gave me the start time and start line, Brillant, shame I had a very lonely race and only had people around me very late on. Great venue, great people, great distances, asked for a bananna at the end and was informed they were for 79.3 people!! Really!! So little things bring us back, more comms amongst the helpers so they know the drill. Thanks for really saving the day for me. Polly

What an amazing place to complete a 10k! I'm the sort of person who prefers to run early doors so was a little hesitant when the run did not begin until 11am. However when I turned up I was surprised by the amazing beauty of the area. Unfortunately for me it was a stunning and very hot day which I never find easy to run in. The race was multi terrain so was quite tough when running in fairly long grass. A lot of debris a long the way so I was often looking down to avoid nettles, twigs and deer poo however marshals had clearly marked low trees/branches with red and white tape which was really helpful. Being a hot day I struggled with the heat and often seeing hills infront of me but apart from the voice in my head telling to walk the hills I had a good run. I took in the stunning views, enjoyed no cars and two water stations. Another bonus was the downhill start and downhill finish. All in all a great 10k and well organised.

I had run this 10k last year and really enjoyed so entered it again. It is a tough 10k so not one to do if you are attempting a PB. The course is nearly all off road through the Englefield Estate, which is closed off for the race. You set off in front of the very impressive Englefield house and then run through the estate, which is a mixture of grass fields, crop fields and the polo fields. The course is tough on your legs running through long grass and uneven surfaces, plus there are a few good climbs towards the end of the course. At the end you are give your medal and a cup of water. The medal is very basic and unfortunately did not replicate the beauty of the course and the scenery of the race.Parking was very well organised and located within the estate right next to the start/finish.This is a great small 10k race, which offers a great running challenge

Enjoyable 10k. The only downside being a two lap course but that's the nature of the setting. Though being two laps enabled a 5km split on the chip which is good. Big puddles too and sloppy in places but not a lot you can do about that.
    • Did the 10km in 2017

Great friendly atmosphere, felt like a proper local, community event. Loved the 'shout-outs' from the announcer at the halfway stage and finishing line, using our race numbers to give personalised 'shout-outs'.
    • Did the 5km in 2017

I'm still a relatively new runner and older than most but was made to feel really part of the run series. The only reason I gave the course an OK was the huge lakes on part of the course! The organisation is tip top, i've never had to wait for a bar code and getting the time immediately is a nice bonus.

This was my second time at the Blenheim 7k. A scenic hilly 7.5km run in the grounds of Blenheim Palace. A small portion of the run was on trails, but mostly on the closed roads of the palace grounds. There is a 4mile route for buggy and wheelchair racers, and a 1 mile run for juniors. It's a friendly atmosphere with helpful marshalls. The start was delayed due to mass queuing for the toilets.....(12 toilets for 2.5K competitors, supporters, staff)
    • Did the event in 2018

What I thought was going to be a pretty quiet race turned out to be very busy. It was nice and relaxed at the start, although the queue for the toilets was very long (12 toilets for over 2000 people) delaying the start of the race by a few minutes. The route is mostly on tarmac with a short section of trail running. Considering the recent rain the trails weren't too muddy. There did seem to be an awfully lot of runners for the course and at points it was very congested as we all set off together it was difficult to get around in the beginning.Overall I would take part again, it is a nice local race for me with some good hills to test the legs with nice scenery. Let's hope they have a few more toilets next year.

Join over 7,000 triathletes at the beautiful World heritage site, Blenheim Palace, for the UK's most stunning triathlon. Known by many as the season opener, this is the second largest triathlon in the UK and a firmly established must-do event.

We have combined this breath-taking backdrop with sport, to produce what can only be described as the most stunning triathlon in the UK.

Blenheim Palace is an idyllic setting for a triathlon, with an open water lake swim and mostly fast and flat bike and run legs on traffic free roads. With options of sprint and super sprint distances this really is a fantastic event for elites, beginners and everyone in between. And the Weekend Warrior challenge is the ultimate test of endurance. Entrants attempt to complete as many triathlons as they can during racing hours, over the two days of the event weekend. The Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon course consists of a fresh lake open water swim, a gently undulating bike course and a picturesque run route around the Queens Pool.

The atmosphere at the Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon is always spectacular and this is mainly down to the wonderful level of support the event receives from spectators. So for those not taking part please feel free to come along to Blenheim Palace, bring a picnic, look around the Capability Brown landscaped gardens and make a weekend of it.

Did this as was recommended by a friend. It didn’t disappoint but the weather was incredibly hot. My first OW swim, well marshalled and felt safe at all times. Wave size not too bad. Lifeguards helped us unzip wetsuits due to heat before running up the hill to T1. Bike course
    • Did the event in 2018

Finally got my chance to race at Blenheim after years of wanting to. I know a lot of people say the price is steep but on reflection, I really think it’s money well spent. This is without a doubt one of the premier triathlon events I’ve ever done.If I was making recommendations, here’s a few:- Get there early and give yourself time in transition etc. It’s a busy place, you won’t be queueing etc, that side of things is very efficient, but you still have to get from the car to registration to transition and then on to lake, there’s a bit of walking. If you’re like me and want to be able to take your time getting set up, definitely build that time in so you can relax. I made some mistakes because I was rushed that caught me out at the start of the bike- Race pack, the number was a bit flimsy and I had to punch two holes in it to fit my race belt, was worried I was going to rip it or it fly off on the bike at any moment. Bike and helmet stickers were irritating with the peel-off back too, took me ages to get them off which didn’t help when I was rushed- Run water station, just one which normally would be fine, was turning into a real hot day though so I’d always make provision for an extra one. This is a really big event, and see no reason why this can’t be achieved. Outside of all of this, I can only say this race is AWESOME. It’s a totally honest course, undulation in both the bike and run, and a hill straight out of the swim to get up to transition. It’s a beautiful route from start to finish with great crowds and on-course commentators whipping up the atmosphere. You can have fun but also if you really want to push yourself, the course is challenging enough to give you a real test.  Finish chute is brilliant, I have a young family and my son ran down over the finish line with me which I reckon is my favourite moment in triathlon yet.Definitely do this race, there really is nothing not to like!
    • Did the event in 2017

This was my first triathlon and it was a good choice. Registration was easy and there was reqgular contact via e mail and an excellent preparatory information pack. The marshalls were outstanding and my family loved the supporters experience. The run from the swim to the transition area is quite ling and up hill (as a word of warning).Outstanding event
