This is a great triathlon for a beginner. It is based in a big grassy park where there is cheap all day parking, an event village and toilets and showers. The swim and T1 are a 10 minute walk away at Nantwich open air brine pool. The swim and race briefing were well-managed and there was no need for flip-flops because there was matting between the swim and T1. It was a sunny day and the open air pool was a bonus. I'd been for a recce swim the week before and the water had seemed colder than it did on the day, but the recce swim prompted me to get my head and shoulders under the water before I was counted off to start. The bike leg was on mainly quiet lanes and was well-marshalled. The route was gently undulating and a race car drove around the route throughout the event. Arrival into T2 was easy and good for supporters to get close. Water was available straight out of T2 and at the start of every lap of the run. I'm not usually keen on running on grass, but the grass in Bariny Park was flat and even and I was fine in road running shoes. The run is 4 laps and goes right through the event village and the atmosphere created by the picnicking spectators. I'd recommend this triathlon to first timers, and to anyone keen on an open air pool. The pool was a stand-out feature for me, as was the, as yet unmentioned, post race massage.

First race I've done for a couple of years and this one seemed perfect, an outdoor pool , fast flat course through Cheshire plains and a grassy run. I would do this again, nice little tri

Very pleasant, well organised sportive. Excellent value for money.  Lovely place to start as well.    Would have liked to have had some flapjack at the end for those of us who don't stop at the feed stations, I missed out and I heard it was ace!   Also, a couple more waymarkers after the feed stations would have been useful.  As so many people stopped to eat, those of us who didn't had a couple of 'is this the right way?' moments as there was no-one around and suddenly no waymarkers!

Only remembering when getting into Northwich that I didn’t have any money with me for parking my friend was scrambling round in her bag for change lol I’d already felt disappointed that parking fee wasn’t included in the entry fee. Although I found somewhere else to park near to the boat lift. Walking toward the boat lift there was little signage directing into registration and the start from outside of the facility. We made it in the end though and registration was fast.  The course was beautiful and extremely warm and I was soon loving the run. Marshall’s where lovely and very encouraging. Hoping this event will get bigger and better this being the first one. The goody bag had sweets , cake and chocolate which soon was eaten but I honestly didn’t expect much with the entry fee being so cheap.Well done for a great event !

  • Did the event in 2018

I had done the spring Cheshire Triathlon in May, and the course for this event was the same. I really enjoyed it again, not least for the location, and the facilities.
The organisation was really good, and the Nantwich brine pool is fantastic. I knew I would find the water quite cold, so I had a pre-swim cold shower on the poolside- this took my breath away but made the pool water feel warm. The bike course is on quiet lanes and there were plenty of marshals and signs. As the run is 4 laps of the park where car parking and supporters are all gathered, you end the NW Triathlon surrounded by support, buoyant music, and commentary., and it’s also possible to end the event with a post-race picnic. I think it’s a very good first triathlon, and a good one for people who want to swim outside in an open air pool.
  • Did the event in 2018

My first tri. Generally v good. Lots of good info online beforehand etc. Course was pretty good.

Was on poolside in time for race brief but it didn’t happen in time for my start time. T1 was a little cramped. Results took ages to be posted online.

Otherwise, very easy to participate. I’ll be back.

  • Did the event in 2018

This is a race of races, it has everything you would want from a half marathon, from long easy straights to heartbreaking hills it has it all.On the course you will find encouragement on every corner with locals shouting out there support, kids giving power up high 5's to plenty of offical and unoffical water stations, every type of sweet is avalible to please any sugar cravings. It all kicks off with a half k walk to the start line, just beyond a bridge where families wait shouting encouragements, before we all shout the count down. This isnt a race if you dont train it will test the stamina and endurance of anyone but is so rewarding when complete.
  • Did the event in 2018

Having now completed just over half a dozen halfs the Potters Arf is the toughest I have done. The course has plenty of climbs to make this a great challenge. Whilst being tough the crowd support is absolutely fantastic and by far the best I have experienced. Locals lined the streets throughout the whole 13.1 miles giving great encouragement. Many giving out a plentiful supply of sweets, ice pops, fruit and water along the way. There were around 1900 entrants. Everyone met in the centre of Hanley where parking was cheap and easy to find.Plenty of portaloos in the centre meant you did not have to queue for long. Then approx 15mins before the start you are directed on a short walk together to the start line.Three water stations were setup around 3, 7 and 10 miles which were all adequately stocked. A local McDonalds had set up an unoffical one just before you hit the turn at approx mile 12 for what is affectionately known as Hearbreak Hill which was much appreciated! Its not hard to spot on my split times where this was! I gave it a bash but it soon beat me and I had to power walk to the top.Marshalls and volunteers were all brilliant on the day.The goodie bag was fantastic. You get a Medal, TShirt, Plate, Ceramic Coaster, Flapjack and Fruit and nut snack bag.Superb value for money and one I will definetly challenge myself to run again.
  • Did the event in 2017

Love them or hate them, there were plenty of hills. There was plenty of support from the locals and it wasn't the biggest of field of participates (I think there 1,800 runners who took part, which is a good thing in my opinion). There was enough aid stations and were well manned. The communication was great and the start & finish worked really well My only slight gripe was that the first mile marker was at the six mile point, but were accurate afterwards. This was a minor issue for me. The roads weren't fully closed, with runners on one side and traffic on the other, but it takes a little common sense to keep clear of the cars.

This is an amazing obstacle course. It tested my strength and stamina throughout, the team briefing before the off was good and clear. The marshalls on the way round were helpful and clear of what to do.
The team work you get on the way round is amazing. The support we got off other teams was amazing.
The sense of achievement I got after is amazing, a great event one worth doing.

  • Did the 15km in 2017

First time I had seen the location let alone run it but it was a lovely setting. Good atmosphere and well marshalled. Good views and scenery all through the route. Opportunity for 2 waters along the way which was appreciated. I personally was cautious about the route and how fast I went off based on what I had read, yes there are hills but equally what goes up must come down so there was plenty of down hill too enabling you to catch your breath again and prepare for the next hill. T shirts given to all those who tool part and I thought it was an appropriate caption on the front! I would recommend the race and for anyone who hasn't ran a 15k you will get a PB regardless! I hope to be back next year and better prepared.

i love this race. It's on a flat motor course with only three bends on each of the bike laps. Everyone is so friendly. Great organisation. Drinks and jelly beans at the end. There is also not an enormous number of people taking part, so if you are just a beginner it's ideal. It is very friendly and great fun.

This is a very popular local event organised by Wilmslow Running Club and regularly sells out within a couple of weeks of becoming available. There's a limited number of runners (about 400 I believe) for safety. The route starts and ends in a field just outside the village of Mobberley and the first and last mile or so is on quiet country lanes with the rest on trails and paths which circumvent the airport. The course is flat, save for dropping down to the rivver to go under the runway, and then sharply up the other side. Extremely well marshalled with no (realistic) risk of getting lost.Registration was at the start and plenty of queues to easily pick up your number. Just a bottle of water at the end but for £9 it's good value.

i registered last minute knowing it would be hilly but nothing prepares me for how tough it would be (as a relatively new runner).the scenery was ofcourse stunning in this part of the Peak District.marshalls were all excellent and encouraging with a bit of crowd support in and around buxtonFor the price its an absolute bargain and I will happily attempt it again next year assuming my legs have recovered by then.
  • Did the event in 2018

I only booked this 4 days in advance, as a training run for Swaledale. It lived up to its reputation and I was gutted to be walking before the 2 mile point!  My own fault for not being fully hydrated before the race. I drank a full bottle of water at each checkpoint and resigned myself to walking up the hills when necessary and running the flat and downhill sections, and just making the most of the spectacular scenery. On such a gorgeous warm day it felt like a privilege just to be out there running amongst green fields, wildflowers, lambs and towering hills, some of which we climbed. A nice low key vibe with friendly marshalls and a bit of support from locals. Tshirts were only available if you entered 2 weeks in advance but I was a little disappointed by the medal which was fairly generic but engraved on the back. I’m not ruling out returning next year to see if I can walk less and shave a couple of minutes off my 2.08 time. Loved it finished at the pavilion where ice cream, slushes, cakes & drinks were available!
  • Did the event in 2018

Ok so I knew this was going to be hilly but cricky they weren't just hills they were mountains!!Its easy to register before the event and they do take entries on the day if you don't want to commit until you see the weather.  On the day you present yourself at the race hq and get your number and timing chip and then the race starts just around the corner.  This part was really quick and pain free. We parked on the road so got free parking so look round before you go into the public car park. The route is amazing and the views were to die for.  Did I say you climb mountains?  The first climb begins pretty much immediately and goes on for 3 miles!  If you can look up from your feet as you try and drag yourself to look about you, you won't be disappointed.  Part of the route is on gated roads but they put mats down over the cattle grids. The hills, aka mountains, are relentless but stunning.  There isn't a great deal of crowds out there to cheer you on but the views make up for it.  The marshals are amazing and seem to pop up just when you need them.  There were 3 water stations at roughly 3,6 and 9 miles. It is on open roads which may put some people off but I never felt unsafe as most of the roads seem to be mainly used by sheep !Dont wear headphones as they announce at the start that people will be disqualified if they do.Would I do it again? Yes but go into it knowing the hills are killers and it seriously isn't a PB course but a serious bucket list course.

  • Did the event in 2018

The Carsington 7+ is a realy enjoyable route, taking in one complete circuit of Carsington Reservoir, to and from the visitor centre.  Don't be fooled into thinking a route by the shores will be easy though, it's deceptively hilly.  There are 3 or 4 steep climbs as the higher level paths are taken, which are very attractive and interesting to run on.The whole event was well-organised from start to finish. 2018 saw a very hot day and the 2 water stations at approxamately 2.5 and 5 miles were much needed.  Finishers received a T-Shirt, bottle of water and an energy gel.  The only negative was the absence of a medal, which has become an integral part of so many events nowadays.  Apart from that, this event is much recomended.
