A 2.6 mile loop of Ashington Community Woods. Some of this is tarmac paths, some is trail. Trail shoes would be recommended in poor weather. 10 laps for a marathon, 12 laps for 50k. See course map
A new competition for the 2016/17 season, Newcastle are hosting a brand new road race held around the Town Moor. The race is open to all abilities and prizes are up for grabs for the first 3 individuals in each race and the first male/female teams.

The Pier to Pier race is one of the more popular runs in the North of England with around 1000 entries each year. The run starts on the beach at South Shields Pier and follows a superb scenic route along the cliff paths past Marsden Rock and Souter Lighthouse. It rejoins the beach at Whitburn and finishes at Roker Pier in Sunderland.
The 'Mad March Mare' will put you up against all the elements you can imagine, battle against the earth, our wooded zone will have you climbing up and down huge ravines, you will ascend and descend over 500 metres. Plough through fire obstacles if the wind doesn't put them out, our venue can virtually guarantee you will be fighting against the wind at some point. Struggle through the freezing cold water, we have lots of cold water for you to endure and finally when you mix earth and water together you get MUD, lots and lots of Mud!!
On the 10k course, there are 35 natural and man made obstacles that you will need to wade through, climb over, crawl through or navigate around! We are at a Racecourse so we have Fences to jump, slides with a twist, mountains of hay bales, tunnels to conquer, waterfalls to climb and so much more!! We do have a heart though, when you finish the course we have made sure you have the chance to celebrate your amazing achievement by opening up the fantastic facilities at Hexham Racecourse for you to enjoy.
When you finish we will provide you with a hot drink and snacks to give you a quick energy hit so you can get changed out of your fancy dress clothing. What! ... you aren't going to wear fancy dress? ... no worries ... no matter what you wear, it won't resemble what you started in!!
At the Racecourse, we will provide adequate changing and showering facilities. If you are too tired to get changed, you can still join others for a well earned drink in the bar, no matter how muddy you are! For those of you that do want to stay and get changed, you can enjoy the entertainment provided by local bands that will be in several bars across the finish area. Come and challenge yourself to the limit, you would be MAD not to!!

The route takes in beautiful trails along the North and South side of the River Wear, with great views along the river and its broad range of wildlife and wildfowl, before the fabulous finish on Penshaw Monument itself.
We are sure you will agree, the finish and the bling with be worth the challenge. This race has everything you would want in a Trail Race.
This race also has great facilities for the whole family. Herrington Country Park has a children's play area, woodland walks and fun trail walks. There is also a great cafe and an ice cream van on the park as well.

This race is part of the Everyone Active Coast Road Series 5k on Wednesdays held on 25th April, at 7.15pm. Race will take place in Redcar Rugby Club, Green Lane, Redcar.
The Hamsterley 10k takes place in the Forest Drive which is largely flat, the race turns and comes back to the start/finish area at the Nest Car park near the middle of the Hamsterley Forest drive.

Inspired by TV game shows like Total Wipeout, Gladiators, Takeshis Castle and Ninja Warrior, this is the only event that will give you the chance to take on a load of epic obstacles that youve only ever seen on screen and always wanted to try.
Well have a 5km route with around 10 obstacles, a 10km route with 15, and all 20 obstacles on our 15km route if youre up for the toughest challenge. We never do laps at Rough Runner, but everyone who joins us for the game show-inspired journey will cross the Travelator at the finish line. So you can consider that particular childhood dream fulfilled!
