Under the castle&#x27;s watchful eye, the Harlech Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon is one of the best loved races on the triathlon calendar.Fast and fun this event is both a perfect beginner triathlon or duathlon and a chance for the more competitive to grab a Personal Best.The Sprint Triathlon begins with a 400-metre swim in Harlech swimming pool, followed by a beautiful 21km cycle and an impressive 6km run which finishes with the famous ‘Storm the Castle”.Featuring the same stunning cycle route as the triathlon, but sandwiched between two great run routes, the Harlech duathlon has proven to be a hugely popular race.Harlech is a small town with a big heart and this triathlon represents it perfectly!

Harlech Triathlon & Duathlon

Duathlon is a multidiscipline endurance sport where you run the first leg, cycle the second, and then run again for the third and final section. There are four standard Duathlon distances governed by the International Triathlon Union (ITU): the Sprint distance duathlon includes a 5k run, 20k bike, 2.5k run; Standard distance duathlon includes a 10k run, 40k bike, 5k run; Middle distance duathlon includes a 10k run, 60k bike, 10k run; and Long distance duathlon includes a 10k run, 150k bike, 30k run. The format is similar to triathlons, but you run instead of swim for the first leg. Similar variants are aquathlons which have the swimming and running without the cycling element, or aquabikes which have the swimming and cycling without the running element. There are also team duathlon events, where one member runs while all others cycle, and roles are changed at various transition points. Team duathlons require good planning and teamwork throughout to make things as smooth and speedy as possible.
