Did the Half Marathon in 2019
I did the half marathon, great atmosphere and didn’t find the Itchen Bridge too bad, loved running through the stadium and got a great race photo In the stadium. The hill towards the end felt tough luckily there was a water station at the top and it was a warm day.… read more

Great event! A challenging two lap course and amazing support for the first lap (which coincided with those running the half marathon) and a quieter second lap, but still with amazing locals out to keep us going! The final mile was amazing with all the support and cheers. Well organised, good marshalling, excellent medical support and a lovely medal! If you want a “not flat” marathon and some beautiful scenery despite being through the city, this one is for you!… read more

Route description
Route description

All races start and finish in the heart of Southampton’s city centre with the run course passing iconic local landmarks including Bargate, QE2 Anchor and St Mary’s Stadium. Sure to be the race highlight will be running both the ascent and, more popularly, the descent over the Itchen bridge, which will be closed exclusively for this unique event.

At the top of the Itchen bridge almost 100ft up, you’ll experience a feast for the eyes with the beautiful view of the city, the River Itchen, commercial centre and out to sea towards the Isle of Wight.

There are many delights on this route including running alongside the beautiful mouth of the Solent, before running through the Premier league Saints stadium, through the huge expanse of the common, then finish in front of the Guildhall in the city centre.

The Marathon route:

  • 2-lapped course
  • An exciting mix of coast, city and parks
  • Predominantly flat course
  • 5 water and energy stations

4th time of running Southampton half.... previous years have been horrible, not the course, not the organisation nor the atmosphere, just me and probably not being fit enough. However, this year I laid the demons to rest and enjoyed it from start to finish.Great run, well organised and well supported by the City of Southampton... Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a few challenging hills - Itchen Bridge and Burgess Road are particular favourites !!! All mixed in with a bit of park running, through the Premier League Stadium, wiggling through the ports along side the Solent and around the suburbs of Southampton where all the residents get out and support the runners. Well done ABP and Southampton..... Will be back next year.
