Following a section by the shoreline at Weston Shore, runners have the unique experience of racing through the brilliant St Mary’s Football Stadium, home to Premier League football team, Southampton.
Runners will then head over Northam Bridge with more riverside views, before running through the beautiful Riverside Park. They will then cross into Portswood and head through the picturesque Southampton Common.
Here, the Half Marathon runners will head towards the finish and a rousing reception outside the Southampton Guildhall, to complete the race and collect their medals.
For Marathon runners it will be time for your second lap! Runners will know what to expect second time around and can find their rhythm as the race gets tough before coming back to the City Centre to the wonderful finish line atmosphere.
The Half Marathon also has the option for wheelchair racers to take part in this event.
The 10k also starts and finishes in the centrally located Southampton Guildhall Square.
This exciting route begins by taking runners through Queen’s Park, before you'll run over the famous Itchen Bridge with glorious views across the Southampton Waters, The Solent and, even the New Forest.
This will then lead to a loop of Woolston, where you are likely to find many supporters cheering you all the way round. You’ll then head back towards the city centre, over Northam Bridge, taking you right past the legendary St Mary’s Stadium, home of Southampton’s Premier League football team.
Runners will head through the underpass to continue on their route and will run through more of the city’s green spaces, in the shadow of Solent University.

This brilliant Fun Run makes this a truly memorable day out for the whole family. You can walk, jog, run through the city centre parks of Southampton. You can even come in fancy dress if you like, but whichever you want to complete the race bring the whole family along!

Had a great day, great atmosphere and course. Not to difficult a course. Volunteers were terrific. Plenty of places for people wishing to watch.

Very well organised and there was an amazing atmosphere!! The course is pretty tough due to the hills!! Great t-shirt and medal :)
4.7Did the Half Marathon in 2021
It was not an easy route but the atmosphere was amazing the whole city came out to cheer the runners with water spray, fruits, water etc. It was well organised and by far it was of great value.
5.0Did the Marathon in 2021
I did the half marathon, great atmosphere and didn’t find the Itchen Bridge too bad, loved running through the stadium and got a great race photo In the stadium. The hill towards the end felt tough luckily there was a water station at the top and it was a warm day.
4.3Did the Half Marathon in 2019
Great event! A challenging two lap course and amazing support for the first lap (which coincided with those running the half marathon) and a quieter second lap, but still with amazing locals out to keep us going! The final mile was amazing with all the support and cheers. Well organised, good marshalling, excellent medical support and a lovely medal! If you want a “not flat” marathon and some beautiful scenery despite being through the city, this one is for you!
4.3Did the Marathon in 2019
Number collection was so disorganised, the start was disorganised and the half and full started together which made it very difficult and busy ! the pacers were no where to be seen as they were all mixed up with marathon and half marathon
3.0Did the Marathon in 2019
4th time of running Southampton half.... previous years have been horrible, not the course, not the organisation nor the atmosphere, just me and probably not being fit enough. However, this year I laid the demons to rest and enjoyed it from start to finish.Great run, well organised and well supported by the City of Southampton... Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a few challenging hills - Itchen Bridge and Burgess Road are particular favourites !!! All mixed in with a bit of park running, through the Premier League Stadium, wiggling through the ports along side the Solent and around the suburbs of Southampton where all the residents get out and support the runners. Well done ABP and Southampton..... Will be back next year.
4.3Did the Half Marathon in 2019
