Route information
The Adventure Championships Triathlon offers entry into 3 amazing triathlons throughout the year, in 3 totally different locations.

Super Sprint
Slateman Swim 400m, Cycle 10.5k, Run 2.6k
Swim in Llyn Padarn in the shadow of Snowdon, then cycle alongside Snowdon, towards the famous Llanberis mountain pass and alongside the historic Dinorwic Slate Quarry, before running past Vivian Quarry and enjoying some downhill sections through beautiful forests and through fields to the finish.
Snowman Swim 400m, Cycle 12.8k, Run 2.5k
Begin with a swim in the freshwaters of Llyn Mymbyr under the watchful eye of Snowdon. Then the bike section climbs steadily up the Nant-y-Gwryd valley to reach the turn around point outside the famous Pen y Gwryd Hotel. Before finally then run takes on the lower slopes of Moel Siabod which at 872 metres, is the highest peak in the Moelwynion mountain range.
Sandman Swim 400m, Cycle 11k, Run 2k
With a beach start and sea swim, lining up on the glorious Newborough beach is an unforgettable feeling. From transition in Newborough Forest, the cycle route takes you up to the village of Newborough before flying back down for the run. The run takes place on the rugged trails of Newborough Forest. Running through the trees and down along the sand dunes is both wonderful and gruelling.
Sprint
Slateman Swim 750m, Cycle 20k, Run 5.8k
Swim in Llyn Padarn in the shadow of Snowdon surrounded by the history of Slate Mining in the Welsh hills. Then Cycle alongside Snowdon, climbing up the famous Llanberis mountain pass. You will also climb Pen y Pass and there will be fabulous mountain views throughout. During the run you’ll go past Vivian Quarry, and head towards Dinorwic, there will be beautiful forest sections and glimpses of Snowdon.
Snowman Swim 750m, Cycle 31k, Run 6.1k
Begin with a swim in the freshwaters of Llyn Mymbyr under the watchful eye of Snowdon. The bike section flows out to Capel Curig and down past Pont Cyfyng waterfall. You will enjoy the stunning Conwy Valley and will negotiate the historic bridge in the centre of Llanrws and head up towards Betws y Coed from the side of the Gwydyr Forest. The run includes a tough 2.3k climb up the beautiful rocky paths of Moel Siabod before you reach the turning point and run back down again towards the finish.
Sandman Swim 750m, Cycle 22.9, Run 5.4k
With a beach start and sea swim, lining up on the glorious Newborough beach is an unforgettable feeling. From transition on Newborough Forest, the cycle route takes you up to the village of Newborough, then through sweeping bends towards LLangaffo then through the marshlands towards Malltraeth and the final transition. The run takes place on the rugged trails of Newborough Forest. Running through the trees and down along the sand dunes is both wonderful and gruelling. The last 1.5k is almost entirely on sand but it only makes the accomplishment all the more rewarding.
Slateman Sprint Duathlon Run 2.5k, Cycle 20k, Run 5.8k
On the first run, you will blast through the beautiful Lagoons in Llanberis. Then you will tackle steps up to the Quarry hospital before returning past Vivian quarry towards the transition. On the bike, you will cycle alongside Snowdon where you will climb up past the historic Dinorwic Slate Quarry and on through Nant Peris. With a nice swooping descent, head towards the transition point. The final run will be tough but will have lots of views to keep you occupied. There will be a short section of road in the direction of Fachwen before a steep downhill through beautiful forests with great views of Snowdon.
Snowman Sprint Duathlon Run 2.4k, Cycle 31k, Run 6k
The first short and sharp run will follow the forest track along to a sharp hairpin where you will climb Moel Siabod. This is followed by a descent towards the transition. The bike section will offer some great scenery of waterfalls and whitewater rapids along the Llugwy river. After taking in the scenery you will start to ascend back towards the transition point which will challenge your legs. Back off the bike, you will then indulge in a mountain run, climbing Moel Siabod. You will not climb to the summit but there will be a tough 2.3k climb up the rocky paths along technical terrain.
Sandman Sprint Duathlon Run 2k, Cycle 23k, Run 5.4k
This run will see you tackle the trails of Newborough forest as well as some sandy tracks that run along the beach. On the bike route, there will be plenty of climbs and descents to keep you on your toes. Finally, you will tackle the trails of Newborough Forest all over again as you run through the trees and along the sand dunes. The finish is almost entirely on sand, making this duathlon even more rewarding.

Slateman Swim 1500m, Cycle 49.6k, Run 11.9k
Swim in the incredible fresh water of Llyn Padarn in the shadow of Snowdon surrounded by the history of Slate Mining in the Welsh hills. The iconic bike route Begin by climbing up the famous Llanberis Pass to Pen y Pass alongside Snowdon and there will be stunning views of Llyn Mymbyr and Moel Siabod. You pass many of Wales' most famous and iconic peaks; Tryfan, Glyder Fach and Fawr and the start of the Carneddau mountain range before heading back to Llanberis for the run. After a steady start to the route, as you run past Llyn Peris at the foot of the Dinorwic Slate Quarry, you will see what awaits, a 2k climb up the zig zags through the quarry. After the striking quarry landscape you will head through wonderful forest and beautiful trails of Parc Padarn into the finish.
Snowman Swim 1500m, Cycle 69.2k, Run 8.4k
Begin with a swim in the freshwaters of Llyn Mymbyr under the watchful eye of Snowdon. The challenging bike route takes in most of North Wales' most iconic climbs. Having headed down the Nant Gwynant Pass you will climb up to Tan y Grisiau, Blaenau Ffestiniog and on up the Crimea pass. After some descending you will climb up to Capel Curig and the Plas Y Brenin mountain centre before you reach transition. This brutal run takes you up Moel Siabod, the highest peak in the Moelwynion mountain range. Ascend up 3.5k of beautiful rocky paths to summit at 872m before flying down through the forest to the finish.
Sandman Swim 1500m, Cycle 58.6k, Run 10k
With a beach start and sea swim, lining up on the glorious Newborough beach is an unforgettable feeling. Starting in the heart of Newborough Forest, early in the ride you will go past the famous village of llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. You will fly past traditional villages and stunning views of the coast. You will descend down through the forest to transition. Running through trees and catching glimpses of the sea and marshland within this forest is just magical. The last 1.5k is almost entirely on sand, which makes the accomplishment of becoming a Sandman all the more rewarding.
Slateman Standard Duathlon Run 5.8k, Cycle 49.6k, Run 11.5k
The Slateman will take you on some great trail runs around the finest countryside of Wales. The cycle will take in some great views of North Wales as you climb the Llanberis Pass to Pen y Pass alongside Snowdon. With views, aplenty enjoy this challenging cycle. The final run will be tough with a 2k climb up through the quarry which will make your legs burn. Finally, you will descend into the forest and tackle some beautiful trails to the finish.
Snowman Standard Duathlon Run 4.2k, Cycle 69.3k, Run 8.4k
This Duathlon will be a grueling challenge as you will run up Moel Siabod. This will involve ascending some rocky paths for 2.7k before turning around and running back towards the lake for the bike transition. Once on the bike take in some challenging climbs. The final run will be climbing the highest peak in the Moelwynion mountain range. Feel the burn as you climb 872m above sea level before a speedy descent towards the finish line.
Sandman Standard Duathlon Run 5.4k, Cycle 58.5k, Run 10k
In The Sandman, you will tackle the tough trails of Newborough Forest. You will run through the tree and along sand dunes which will be fun yet challenging. Then you will take on the bike route that will challenge you with plenty of climbs. Finally, the run will take you back onto the trails to truly test your endurance, make sure to embrace the burn.
Savage
Competitors doing the Savage Triathlon will complete the Sprint Triathlon on the Saturday and the Standard Triathlon on the Sunday. Please see the descriptions above for the two routes.
Legend
Slateman Swim 1900m, Cycle 92.6k, Run 23.1k
This epic challenge begins with a swim in Llyn Padarn in the shadow of Snowdon surrounded by the history of Slate Mining in the Welsh hills. Begin the cycle by climbing up the famous Llanberis Pass to Pen y Pass alongside Snowdon, before turning left and heading towards Capel Curig, the home of the Plas y Brenin Mountain Centre. You pass many of Wales' most famous and iconic peaks; Tryfan, Glyder Fach, and Fawr and the start of the Carneddau mountain range. Once you’re through the beautiful, quaint village of Beddgelert, you’ve got one last challenge to come. You must now cycle up the narrow and winding Nant Gwynant Pass and return to the top of Pen y Pass. There will be stunning mountain views throughout.
The run is 2 laps of the Standard distance course. A challenging climb through the quarry is combined with a flowing descent through forest and back the the finish in Llanberis.
Snowman Swim 1900m, Cycle 92k, Run 21.1k
Begin with a swim in the freshwaters of Llyn Mymbyr under the watchful eye of Snowdon. The cycle route takes in many of North Wales most iconic mountain passes and routes. You will start with the climb up to the famous Pen y Pass; the gateway to Snowdon. You will flow down into Llanberis with stunning view all around before cycling alongside the Glaslyn river. You will then climb to Tan y Grisiau, Blaenau Ffestiniog and on up the Crimea pass. Then after some fast descending you must climb up to Capel Curig and the Plas Y Brenin mountain centre before you reach transition.
The run takes you 12k out and back down the stunning Nant Ffrancon Valley, before summiting Moel Siabod, the highest peak in the Moelwynion mountain range. Th challenging 3.5k ascent followed by the fast descent is a fitting way to complete the challenge.
Sandman Swim 1900m, Cycle 93k, Run 19.8
With a beach start and sea swim, lining up on the glorious Newborough beach is an unforgettable feeling. Starting in the heart of Newborough Forest, early in the ride you will go past the famous village of llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. You will head along narrow coast road to Beaumaris, and pass through a number of villages including Brynteg, Rhosmeirch and Trefor continuing on towards the seaside town of Aberffraw with stunning views of the coast. Then finally descend the forest road towards transition and the run. Legend Triathletes complete 2 laps of the Standard run loop.
Running through trees and catching glimpses of the sea and marshland within this forest is just magical. The last 1.5k is almost entirely on sand, which makes the accomplishment of becoming a Sandman all the more rewarding.

Age Requirements
You must be at least 15 to enter the Sprint Duathlon and Triathlon, at least 17 for the Standard Duathlon and Triathlon, and at least 18 for the Legend and Savage triathlon.
BTF Membership
If you are not a member of the British Triathlon Federation your entry will include a membership for these races, costing £6.

Which events can I participate in if I enter the Adventure Championships Triathlon?
Whichever distance you sign up for involves each of the three triathlons. This means that you're signing up for 3 separate events throughout the summer.
