Staged since 1981 and truly part of the fabric of the North East, 60,000 determined and dedicated runners make the Great North Run the World’s biggest half marathon. Famous for its warm local support, unbeatable atmosphere and the millions raised for good causes, the experience is second to none. Running from city to sea, the route takes runners on a memorable 13.1 mile journey, starting in Newcastle City Centre before a grandstand finish at the stunning South Shields coast. To be part of this world famous event you will need to first enter the ballot for the hugely oversubscribed 60,000 places.

Ensure you plan your journey to the start line in advance of the big day as there will be a number of road closures in place and your usual routes into the city may not be available.
These will be confirmed closer to event day.

Exact timings will be confirmed closer to event date.
Race Pack
Your race pack will be sent out in the post approximately 3 weeks before the event, it will include your race number and your timing chip.
Once you have received your race pack, you must read all the information as this is important preparation and will make sure you enjoy your day.
You do not need to register on the day.
There will be Great Run Information points on the day for if you have any last minute queries.
If your race pack doesn't arrive please contact the organiser at https://www.greatrun.org/contact/ who can verify your entry and give you details on how to collect a replacement pack on race weekend.
Start Times
Your start time and wave allocation will be based on your estimated finish time when you enter. You can determine what wave you are in by looking at your race number, which you will receive in your race pack.
Age Requirements
Entrants must 17 and older to participate in the Great North Run.
Sweep Vehicle
There are no cut-off times but there is a sweep vehicle as the organiser is under pressure to open the closed roads.
