The 2025 AJ Bell Great North Run, January Ballot is now open until Wednesday 15 January, 14.00hrs with the ballot draw taking place on Thursday 16 January.

When you enter the ballot you will be asked to submit payment details for the entry fee and for any additional add-ons you may wish to purchase. However, no funds will be removed from your account for the entry fee unless you are successful in the ballot draw (unless you select the Pay Now option for merch items). Make sure that you have the necessary funds available in your account for the ballot draw.

Route information

The iconic AJ Bell Great North Run route is well-known across the globe and heads from the Newcastle city centre to the beautiful coastline at South Shields. And that’s not all! There are so many iconic landmarks along the way, including Newcastle’s Tyne Bridge and the view to the North Sea from Prince Edward Road.

If that’s not enough, the amazing entertainment and activation zones across the full route will get your legs pumping all the way to the end.

Road Closures

Ensure you plan your journey to the start line in advance of the big day as there will be a number of road closures in place and your usual routes into the city may not be available.

These will be confirmed closer to event day.

Exact timings will be confirmed closer to event date.

Race Pack

Your race pack will be sent out in the post approximately 3 weeks before the event, it will include your race number and your timing chip.

Once you have received your race pack, you must read all the information as this is important preparation and will make sure you enjoy your day.

You do not need to register on the day.

There will be Great Run Information points on the day for if you have any last minute queries.

If your race pack doesn't arrive please contact the organiser at https://www.greatrun.org/contact/ who can verify your entry and give you details on how to collect a replacement pack on race weekend.

Start Times

Your wave allocation will be based on your estimated finish time when you enter. You can determine what wave you are in by looking at your race number, which you will receive in your race pack.

Age Requirements

Entrants must 17 and older to participate in the Great North Run.

Sweep Vehicle

There are no cut-off times but there is a sweep vehicle as the organiser is under pressure to open the closed roads.
