Route information
Depending on what race you choose you will either be running 20 miles or 40 miles in The Beast of the Blacks. Starting near Llanbedr in the mountains, you will follow mountains trails, traversing forests, mountain tops, as well as rivers. This event attracts all abilities from elite to beginners so make sure to lace up and join in. Make sure to look up to see if you can spot any Red Kites dancing in the sky above.
The 40 mile route is comprised of two loops. The first will follow the same route as 20 mile race, 40 mile racers will then run the second lap in reverse to switch up the scenery.
There will be a generous 8 hour cut-off time for 20 mile runners and 16 hours for 40 mile runners.

Mandatory Kit List
A full mandatory kit check will be taken at registration and checks will be carried out during the event. Please bring the following items:
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Race vest/pack
  • Baselayer top - must be synthetic or mineral wool
  • Capacity to carry 2 litres of fluid
  • GPX file downloaded or map
  • Fully Charged Mobile Phone + back up
  • Hat

Checkpoints
Each checkpoint will be stocked with lots of food and drink to fuel you throughout the day. The organisers cater for vegans too. Expect lots of fantastic goodies.
Dogs
This is a canicross friendly event. All dogs must be at least 12 months of age and fit to join you for the distance. You must also keep them on a lead at all times. Owners must take responsibility for their dogs for the whole event. Unfortunately, any canicross runners will not be rewarded with winner's trophies as you may receive an extra 'pull' from your dog.

Can I run with my dog in the Beast of the Blacks 20 and 40 Mile Trail Running Challenge?
Yes, you may run with your dog. However, you will not be rewarded a trophy if you finish in the top 3 as you may have a extra advantage from being pulled by your dog.
