One of the fastest 5 mile road races in the Country. A long established early season race , great for a PB or to see how your Winter training has gone. Great atmosphere and great facilities. From Alsager Leisure Centre.
If you would like a place in the Alsager5 next year then book early as this fast paced 5ml road race fills up very quickly. It's a popular race because at 5 miles it's perfect for every runner from beginners to those working up to 10K's & more experiences runners looking for speed work or PB's. With nearly a 1,000 runners descending on a small Cheshire town, parking can be a problem so car share if you can. A tip for small ladies - collect your T-shirt beforehand as the Smls go quickly. (With special mention to the lovely lady who found me a child size (more like ladies size8) that I can actually wear rather than throwing it in the Pj drawer with tens of other too big race T's. (but that's another story!)It's a 5 min walk to the start so arrive on time. The start itself had a problem of some slower runners starting too far up, which made it frustrating for faster runners & those after Pb's but the race is chipped & once out of the pack, it's a great, fast route that was well supported. To the lady at about 3mls in who roared at me "C'mon Carol, you can do this" ... you will never know how much that spurred me on!! With an army of volunteers both at the LC & en route, the organisation & atmosphere was fantastic. After the race, in the LC bar, where prize giving took place everyone was so kind & encouraging. Thanks to Ken Rushton & all the race organisers & volunteers involved. I for one will be signing up as soon as it opens next year.
Most from the club and guys around me with garmins has this as long, I personally had it as 5.05miles which does make the end results a little out for a 5mile race compared to others and for PBs. Other than that course was good with plenty of support out and about, and started allowed for legs to turn over easily and get into a rhythm very quickly
Four f's . . . Fast, furious, flat and fun! Little bit manic and overcrowded at the start with no way of determining where you should place yourself in the pack but after 1/2 mile it settles down and there's space along the way for all participants. Really enjoyable with lots of enthusiastic spectators. A run for everyone which I would definitely do again.
Really glad I made the effort to travel up from Milton Keynes. Fast flat course, with good organisation. The fastest 5 mile race I've ever done, pretty good road surfaces throughout with all standards of running catered for. Fair entry price, decent t-shirt too.
