Races summary
Here's what races are available for Brutal Bourne Woods
Route information
A single 10k lap route has a gentle run out to a steep climb, before heading up and out into the open through a series of climbs and a couple of marshes, to the 5km point. The course then takes you into the wet section for the first cooling marsh. Survive that and in quick succession it’s into Alligator Swamp followed by Swan Lake. Drop down onto the Muddy Mile with two steep climb outs, there is a view for many miles at the 8km point should you require a breather! Next head for the Duck Pond and a wee bit more wet, onto a very steep short uphill followed by a fast decent onto another couple of testing hills before heading back to the finish. This is our wettest BRUTAL race of the year. Enjoy!
What's included
Look up your number which will be against your surname on the registration boards and then inform the volunteer marshals at the Registration desk of that number. You’ll be handed your race chip and number bib, then you’re ready to go!

Did the race in 2017
I really enjoyed this course. It was a beautiful setting (even in the drizzle) with the start heading through an RSPB nature reserve before you get to the first hill. The hills then continue, pretty much throughout. You are either climbing up a hill or descending back down - trail shoes are very useful. The ground was fairly grippy - more mixed woodland than massive amounts of mud puddles but that was probably being lucky with the weather. Lots of marshals were out on the course, it was very well signposted and it was nice to be able to see other runners along the route. I found the video above on YouTube, posted by Stuart Trott. This wasnt one of the mega hills but apparently a bit that was in Robin Hood. The big hill was Spider Hill. When we got there, I decided to give it a shot but my legs were fried before the top and I had to walk up the last 10%. Overall, I really enjoyed this course.
