Caerphilly 10K routes

The Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10k course is based around a single lap course so lead runners are not likely to lap slower participants. The start and finish line are located off Crescent Road, behind Caerphilly Castle, marked by a gantry. Roads will be opened as part of a rolling road closure after the back runners have passed key points on the route.

Information regarding waves to follow.

Each runner will be issued with a timing chip as part of their information pack. The use of timing chips means that all participants will receive an accurate record of their runtime – regardless of which time they cross the Start Gantry.

START/FINISH LINE AND RUNNERS AREA

The start/finish line is co-located on Crescent Road, allowing entrants easy access to welfare facilities including water and First Aid if required, which will all be accessible off the start/finish line in the Runners Village.

The area has been designed to exclude members of the public from accessing the line. Spectators will be restricted to the grassed areas either side of Crescent Road.

The Runners Village will feature welfare facilities & first aid, toilets, baggage handling, changing areas and sports activities.

RACE DAY NUMBER & CLOTHING

In the event that a runner requires medical treatment, medical practitioners will look to the reverse of a runners number for vital medical details about the runner that may seriously impact on any treatment administered. It is primarily for this reason that we request that you do not run under another runner’s allocated number.

All runners are required to fill in the medical and contact details on the back of their race number before taking part in the run and that next of kin are aware of their run number.

Runners are asked to wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE DURING THE RUN

Runners are advised to change in to dry clothing as soon as is practical and to drink little and often after the race.

The main First Aid Unit will be located at the finish line but there will be First Aid staff located along the route linked by two-way radio communications.

Any runners experiencing difficulty should stop running and seek assistance from the nearest first aid unit/staff or event steward/official. If required, transport will be arranged to take runners back to the finish area where the main first aid post is located for potential further treatment.

If you feel unwell when you finish – move to the side of the finish area and ask for assistance from the medical team who are on hand and trained to help you.

All runners must be prepared to give way and stop to permit emergency service and event vehicles to track along the course route if required.

Road Closures

In order to ensure the event runs safely, there will need to be a number of road closures put in place. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to local residents and businesses.

Please see below for the Caerphilly 10k route which outlines the extent and timings of the road closures.

Residents on Van Road and Pontygwindy Road in Caerphilly are reminded that parking restrictions will be in place on the morning of Sunday 18th June to allow the Caerphilly 10k to proceed safely. Cones will be placed along both routes on Saturday evening and residents are requested to find alternative parking arrangements between 8:30 and midday on Sunday 18th June.

Please note that Crescent Road is partially closed from Nantgarw Road to the junction of Heol Trecastell estate from 6 am to 1 pm and fully closed between 9 am and 1 pm. Vehicular access will be restricted during this period, except for emergency services vehicles attended emergency calls.

Toilets

Temporary toilets will be available at the start / finish line to complement the permanent toilets near Caerphilly Railway Station at the top end of Caerphilly town centre and below the VisitCaerphilly Centre at the lower end of the town centre.
