Route information
The 4.37 mile course will be entirely along the leisure paths within Betteshanger Country Park. The paths are high quality gravel with some muddy spots, making for some pretty fast times. There will be some gentle slopes rather than hills on the course, reaching a maximum elevation of 60 feet.
You can complete as many or as little laps as you can within the 6 hours.
Please remember that Betteshanger Country Park will be open to the public and you will be sharing the paths with the public, that includes dog walkers, ramblers and cyclists so you will need to be aware of your surroundings.

Betteshanger Park is about 2 miles from Deal in Kent along the A258.

Race Numbers
You'll pick up your race number on the morning of the event from the registration desk at the race base camp.
Aid Station
You'll visit the aid station after every 4.37 mile lap. This will be fully stocked by the event organiser but you are welcome to leave your own on the table for runner's supplies.
Age Requirements
Children over the age of 11 are permitted to take part in this event so long as they are accompanied by an adult at all times and do not exceed the following distances.
  • Aged 11-12 can run a maximum of 5k
  • Aged 13-14 can run a maximum of 6k
  • Aged 15 can run a maximum of 10k
  • Aged 16 can run a maximum of 15k
  • Aged 17 can run a maximum of 25k
On-site Facilities
There will be toilets available close to the start/finish area which will will be open from 09:30 - 17:00.
Headphones and Earphones
You will be able to use headphones and earphones during the 6 Hour Challenge. Please have the volume low and be aware of others you are sharing the space with.
Environmentally Conscious Event
The average person in the UK has a carbon footprint of 9.86 tons per year. The event organiser, Saxons, Vikings & Normans has created an environmentally friendly event, where every entry includes 2 trees to be planted in your name and offset the over 40% of average person in the UK's carbon footprint.
You are able to choose to upgrade your entry from 2 trees to pay for 3 or 5 trees, offsetting even more of your carbon footprint.

Yes. Please keep the volume low so you're aware of your surroundings as the space is shared with the public.

What kind of shoes will I need to wear for the Carbon Challenge?
Road and trail shoes will be fine for this course. The majority of the route will be along gravel paths.

Will there be toilets at the Carbon Challenge?
Yes, there are toilets close to the start/finish area.

Will there be a bag drop at the Carbon Challenge?
No, there won't be an official bag drop area but you are welcome to leave your bag at the start/finish area. Someone will always be around however all items are left at their own risk.

When will I get my race number for the Carbon Challenge
All race numbers will be picked up on the day from the race base camp.

Is there somewhere to park for the Carbon Challenge?
Yes, there is a car park on-site. The cost of an all-day ticket is £3.

Do I have to run for the whole 6 hours of the Carbon Challenge?
Not at all! You can run as many or as little laps as you can or want to. You will have to complete a minimum of 1 lap in order to get a bespoke finisher's medal.

How is the Carbon Challenge environmentally conscious?
For every person that signs up to run, at least 2 trees will be planted. You have the option to upgrade your entry so that 3 or 5 trees can be planted. The finisher's medal will be a wooden, eco-friendly design.
