Route information
Cardiff Bay is supplied by two rivers to form a 500-acre freshwater lake just south of the city centre. Swimming in the bay is only allowed with authorised access, so for exclusive use of this unique course, sign up now.
Each of the 4 distances is a point to point course, starting by the location of the former Dr. Who Centre and finishing at the end of Roald Dahl Plas.
The event was created primarily for triathletes looking to warm up, or gain some open water experience, but all levels and abilities are welcome. So whether you're new to open-water swimming, in need of some training, or want to challenge yourself with a new distance, this event is perfect.
There are 4 distances to choose from, with some of the longer distances completing laps of the 1500m course.

By Car
The major road route into Cardiff is the M4 motorway. The Event Village is conveniently situated a few hundred meters from the A4232 expressway and less that 30 minutes from the M4.
From the East or West
Visitors travelling along the M4 from the West are advised to leave the M4 at junction 33 and join the A4232. If you remain on the A4232 it will eventually lead you to Cardiff Bay.
From the South West
Visitors travelling from the South West of England should head North along the M5 motorway and then follow signs for South Wales and the M4.
From the Midlands and North
Visitors travelling from the Midlands and the North of England should head for the M50 motorway (junction 8 on the M5 motorway) and then onto the A40 (signposted South Wales, Monmouth).
Continue along the A40 until you reach Monmouth when the road becomes the A449. Continue along the A449 until you reach the Coldra roundabout where you should take the 5th exit to join the M4.
Parking
Parking information is included in your Final Instructions which will be emailed to you at least 10 days prior to event.
By Train
Cardiff Centre is very accessible from the whole of the United Kingdom. The cost of tickets vary depending on the time of travel.
The travel times for some popular train routes are listed below:

From Cardiff Central you can catch another train to Cardiff Bay Station which is less than half a mile away from the Event Village.
There is also a shuttle service (Cardiff Baycar, service No 6) which takes just 8 minutes to arrive outside Wales Millennium Centre. The Baycar runs every 10 mins. Taxi and Bus services also operate to and from Cardiff Central and Cardiff Bay station.

All timings and details will be confirmed in the weeks leading up to the event.
Registration
Registration will take place on the Plas outside the Wales Millennium Centre CF10 5AL on the Friday Evening and Saturday morning of the event weekend.
There will be specific registration times for each distance, which will be available via website and email approximately 10 days before the event.
Race packs are to be collected on the day at registration, this will include your timing chip and event swim hat.

  • 750m - 15 years old
  • 1500m - 17 years old
  • 3000m & 4500m - 18 years old
BTF Membership
If you are not a member of the British Triathlon Federation, your ticket entry will include the cost of a day membership for £6.

The event village is family friendly and there will be lots on offer for families. There will be a great atmosphere for spectators who can track the person they are supporting using an app so they don't miss them at key points.

Entrants must be 15 years old and older to enter the 750m, 17 years and older to enter the 1500m, and 18 and older to enter the 3000m & 4500m events.
