Running through the woods at night with a head torch is a unique and wonderful experience for runners, which will feel both wild and peaceful at the same time. Your senses will come alive, as you race along with the sound of hooting owls and the sight of deer eyes reflected from your head torch.
The race is suitable for runners of all abilities and head torch novices, everyone is welcome!
The Moon Runner is a winter event which means a crisp ground frost is common. Moonlight will break through the trees, creating an incredible atmosphere while you run along the sparkling surface. Runners will be able to embrace the feeling of remoteness and exhilaration that comes with running in the dark.
Chopwell Woodland Park is on the fringe of Gateshead, and with 360 hectares of woodland, there are miles of paths and old railway tracks making this a perfect spot for a trail running event. The paths will criss-cross through the woods, and offer sights of the industrial history of the region, such as restored coal railway trucks.
There will be a great variety of terrain, from hard-packed gravel tracks to dirt tracks, and all perfect for either trail novices or experienced runners. The weather can be very cold at this time of the year, so runners are encouraged to bring a hat, gloves and a warm jacket so you can enjoy a cuppa and Pizza from the event partners after the race.
The race will start and finish at the Pines, which is near to the main car park.
