Organizer's website

This is the 8th year of the PARAS10 - Colchester and it will showcase the 16th Air Assault Brigade. The course is a challenging 10 mile route on the local training area - watch out for the obstacles and stream crossing. Open to civilians and military.

Please note, Colchester is an active military training area used to prepare troops and vehicles for operations across the world. This training is affected when runners use the area without correct authority and for safety reasons, training will stop until runners are removed. Part of the route is on secured military land, with no public access. Please do not try to walk or run on the route prior to the race.

What’s Included

Medals and T-Shirts will be awarded to all who finish the course

Course Details

Participants can race as individuals or as part of a team. Teams must comprise a maximum a four runners, with the best 3 times counting towards the Team Prize in each race.

PARAS'10 :
The Parachute Regiment challenges you to complete this gruelling running course in the fastest possible time. These are not PB courses nor suitable for spikes - trainers are advised.

The Route : A multi-terrain endurance event, the race is held over undulating military land. For security reasons, the route cannot be publicised or accessed prior to event day. There will be water stations located along the route and at the start and finish. The First Aid Station will be located at Race Control with a roving back up facility.

The time limit for the PARAS'10 is 3 hours. The course will then be closed.

PARAS'10 TAB :
TAB stands for Tactical Advance to Battle. The Parachute Regiment challenges you to attempt the 10 Mile 'P' Company Cross Country Route, carrying a bergen (rucksack) weighing 35lb (excluding food water) and wearing long trousers with 'military style' or hiking boots with ankle support. Competitors rucksacks will be weighed before and after the race, by race officials.

The Route: A multi-terrain endurance event, the race will follow the same route as the 10 mile run. There will be water stations located along the route and at the start and finish. The First Aid Station will be located at Race Control with a roving back up facility. NB. The route is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Canicross :
Do you like to run with your dog? Then Canicross entry may be for you. Canicross is cross-country running with your dog for all breeds, any size, big or small.

Please note, the race start can get crowded and dogs may get over excited. Where possible, please move towards the front of the pack so your dog does not get too penned in.

Canicross entries will start with the runners. It is possible to TAB with your dog, but you will still start with the runners for safety reasons. Trophies are awarded to 1st male and 1st female Canicross runner.

PARAS'2 Kids :
The PARAS'2 is a fun run for children aged between 8 and 15 years of age. There is no timing however you will receive a memento. All children must be accompanied by an adult. (who runs for free)

Kit List

Do the Race Organisers Provide Bergens/Rucksacks?
No. All ‘P’ Company Challenge and Team Challenge competitors are to bring their own rucksack, packed with 35lbs of equipment (excluding food & water), which will be weighed both at the start and finish by race officials.

Are there any specific regulations regarding bergan size/shape, is there any advice on making the bergen comfortable?
From race rules perspective Bergen size & shape is irrelevant, but weight must be 35 lbs. Weight can be made up of anything, though I recommend it being wrapped in something soft like a sleeping bag. Comfort is something that you won't be able to achieve, but padded shoulder straps and a lumbar support are your best bets to try and achieve it.

Are there any specific regulations regarding boots worn for the P Company TAB element of the Paras 10?
Put simply boots must have full ankle support; sturdy hiking boots are fine.

PARAS'10 TAB: To enter the PARAS'10 TAB, entrants require a bergen (rucksack) weighing 35lbs (16 Kg), long trousers (not tights) and a pair of military or hiking type boots with ankle support.

Boots: Boots must be worn in the PARAS'10 TAB, not trainers. With the added bergen weight you need the stability that they give. Boots should be worn in prior to the race and must have ankle support; military boots or hiking boots are ideal.

Bergens: For training, start with less weight and build up to 35lbs. Weight can be made up using bags of sand or metal weights and should be wrapped in something soft like a sleeping bag to cushion your back. Keep the weight high and close to your back.
