Route information
This beautiful and vast open-aired race is the perfect way enjoy a covid-secure running race. Doddington Place Gardens itself is a stunning Edwardian Estate, which will provide some of the best running routes in Kent.
The Gardens, which are located close to Faversham in Kent, are spectacular in the spring and both runners and spectators will be able to view the notable woodlands which include many different varieties of rhododendrons and azaleas.
Theres plenty to see in the large Edwardian rock garden with pools (currently undergoing extensive renovation); a formal sunk garden with herbaceous borders, and a flint and brick folly. The extensive lawns and avenues are framed by impressive, clipped yew hedges and many fine trees.
The undulating course follows trails around the estate, and is home to some tricky, but very manageable hills, with 10k participants completing 2 laps and 5k runners completing 1 lap.
The route starts and finishes close to the main drive and takes runners around the front of the house and all the way through the Park Estate. From here, runners will cross the road at the bottom of the main park and head to the Southern fields of the estate before returning along the main drive.
Whether you're new to trail running, or part of a running club in Kent, this event is the perfect chance experience the Kent countryside.
The event also includes a 2k Kid's Run which will be free to enter on the day, making this a wonderful day out for the whole family.

Did the 10k in 2021
The Doddington Place Gardens 10k takes its course through the trails and hills of the estate. There was also a 5k option, and 5k and 10k Canicross (running with your dog) races. The weather conditions could not have been better; a crisp and sunny spring morning, with barely a breeze in the air. Fast conditions though – these were not! After a quick downhill section for the 1st kilometre, the route took runners back up the steep valley on the other side of the estate, through farmers fields, where more ‘undulations’ awaited. The ground was rough underfoot and I was glad that I had taken note of the race organisers pre-race instruction – “trail shoes are advised”. The uneven surfaces and tight corners made for technical descents, which challenged footwork and concentration as much as strength and speed. Back down the valley again, across the road and up ‘the climb’ – this was steep! No chance to get your breath at the top, another short loop around the start/finish area and for the 5k, that’s it. The 10k’ers got to enjoy another loop! This was like a cross country race, without the cold and the wet! The runners were set off in waves at the start of the race, and there was also a morning and afternoon session, to allow for adequate social distancing. The race was brilliantly hosted in a picturesque setting. The marshals were all brilliant and it was this, and the support/supporting of fellow runners, that made it so good to be back again. Thank you to all the organisers and volunteers.

What a stunning venue for a race! This was my first race back since Lockdown 3.0 and it did not disappoint. The grounds and course were beautiful and the marshals were super friendly and encouraging. Can't wait for the next one!

Wow, what a venue! The course was tough and there were some testing climbs, but it was well worth it for the views out over the course at the top. Special shout out to the marshals - sometimes even a small bit of encouragement can help you through. Looking forward to going back next year and getting to see more of the gardens.

Well organised, fab location, brilliant marshals and parking right by the start. Course was hilly, through both grass and arable fields, some of which were quite stony with hard ground due to lack of recent rain. I’m glad I wore trail shoes. I loved the Covid safe wave starts which spreads everyone out around the course. I’d definitely do it again.

Loved it, course was really interesting - cool trail paths to navigate in amongst a few flatter sections to recover. Awesome weather on the day as well and well organised!

Thoroughly enjoyed my first event like this. Doddington Manor is stunning and running between the sheep was charming. The course was much hillier than anticipated and ground very solid due to lack of rainfall but otherwise it was well organised and good fun. I'll definitely come back next year!

Beautiful course and really great vibes for my first race in a long time! The hill at the end is very sneakily steep, but well worth pushing past for that end of race feeling! Would definitely attend again!

Hey Shelly, did you sign up?! I'm thinking about doing the canicross but I'm completely new to it. Do you have any advice at all?
Shelly Blake
26/11/2020
Hi Steph! I’ve not signed up yet but I’m considering it. I’m woefully out of shape right now!! I’ve been doing Canicross for years with my husky. I recommend doing C25K with your dog to get started. You’ll need a belt for you & no more than 2m lead attached to a harness for your dog. Are you in Kent? Check out Kent Canicross on Facebook x

Hi Rachel, you are going to love running on trails and this is going to be an amazing venue! we do recommend you wear trail shoes and get some practice in them first. We'll leave shoe recommendations to other runners to comment on. Road shoes will be ok, but if there has been lots of rain (which is highly likely in Feb!) then it can be boggy and slippery in places, trail shoes do help but not essential. We hope to see you there! Rachael - Nice Work
