Dulux London Revolution Cycle routes

THE WEEKENDER:

The ultimate cycling weekend. 155 miles of the best cycling in and around the Capital.

Start/Finish Location: Lee Valley Athletics Centre
Distance: 155 miles
Climbing: 7,476ft

Route:

Heading clockwise, South from Lee Valley Athletics Centre, we join the top section of the 2012 Olympic Road Race route, before heading through Central London and taking in the iconic city sights; venturing past the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

After clearing the City, you will head out to tackle the stunning climbs and descents of the North Downs before heading West towards Windsor Great Park and the festival basecamp to relax and celebrate the day’s achievements.

Following a night’s rest, it’s time to get back in the saddle for the shorter day back via the Chiltern Hills and ancient Epping Forest. It’s guaranteed to be a weekend to remember!

THE ULTRA:

155 miles. 1 day. 1 epic challenge.

Start/Finish Location: Lee Valley Athletics Centre
Distance: 155 miles
Climbing: 7,476ft

Route:

One of the toughest one day cycle events in the UK, the ULTRA challenges you to conquer the entire loop of London in one day.

Setting off early Saturday morning from Lee Valley, you will take in the famous London landmarks before leaving the urban cityscape behind you and venturing into the green fields and testing climbs of the North Wessex Downs.

Once through Windsor, it is into the Chilterns to conquer Kop Hill before winding your way back through Eppingorest to celebrate your momentous achievement in a blaze of glory back at Lee Valley!

SOUTHERN STAGE:

City sights and South London country delights.

Start Location: Lee Valley Athletics Centre
Finish Location: Windsor Great Park
Distance: 82 miles
Climbing: 5,348ft

Route:

Heading out South from Lee Valley Athletics Centre, the route heads into Central London and along the Embankment Cycle Superhighway past the iconic London sights; the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

After leaving the City you will head out to tackle the stunning climbs and descents of the North Downs before heading West towards Windsor Great Park, where you will be greeted by the sights and sounds of our famous festival basecamp!

NORTHERN STAGE:

Windsor Great Park to Lee Valley Athletics Centre.

Start Location: Windsor Great Park
Finish Location: Lee Valley Athletics Centre
Distance: 73 miles
Climbing: 3,215ft

Route:

As you leave the colours and sounds of Windsor basecamp behind you, the rolling hills of The Chilterns open up in front of you. A sleepy Sunday morning for the local villages means idyllic riding as you head through Marlow and Princes Risborough. Next up is Kop Hill, a demanding climb that tests all riders’ tired legs. Reach the top and you will be rewarded with some of the very best countryside riding, through sheltered woodland and along rolling slopes.

The last leg of the stage ventures through the historic Epping Forest, then it’s a downhill dash back into London where a warm welcome (and a cold beer) awaits!

Raceday Logistics
    Race Packs:

Your race pack will be sent out in the post around 2 weeks prior to the event start date.

If you are travelling from overseas, you will not receive your pack in the post and you will need to pick it up from the registration desk on the day. This is also the case for anyone who registers after 10/04/2020.

The race pack will include your bib number with safety pins, a luggage label, your participant wristband and your parking (if you booked parking before the deadline above). If you booked parking after this deadline, it will arrive separately in the post the week of the event.

Your merchandise is handled by a separate supplier, so it will not arrive with your race pack.

If you have any questions about your pack, please head to the Info Desk on the day of the event.

    Start Times:

    Saturday –
We will be operating a staggered start system, whereby you will be allocated a time slot between 6.00am-8.15am at Lee Valley

The ULTRA will have the earliest start times between 6.00am-6.30am.

We recommend you arrive 30-45mins before you start time.

    Sunday –
You will be able to set off in your own time between 7.00am-8.30am.

    Cut-Off Times:

    The route is open from:

    ULTRA –
    Saturday 9th May, 6:00am-9.00pm

    Weekender/Day 1/Day 2 –
    Saturday 9th May, 6:45am-7:30pm
    Sunday 10th May, 7:00am-7:30pm

    Bag Transport:

We will transport your bags for you from the start to your final destination each day. In your registration pack you will be given a luggage label with your participant number on it to attach to any luggage so it is easy to find at the end of the day. You’ll just need to drop bags with us in the morning and it will be there for you to pick them up at the other end.

For the ULTRA, we will look after your luggage whilst you complete the 300km. You’ll just need to drop bags with us in the morning and then pick them up at end.
Kit List

At the very least we recommend some decent padded cycling shorts, which you can get from any good bicycle shop. If the weather turns, which we all know is a possibility in English weather, you will want to be able to layer up. We’ll be sending out a full kit list prior to the event but as a summary you should have the following:

  • Helmet (no helmet, no ride)
  • Cycle shorts
  • Cycling shoes or trainers
  • Short or long sleeve sports top
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Cycle gloves
You don’t need to have the latest carbon fibre racing bike to complete the event. However, you do want one which is comfortable, safe and light enough that you can cover the distance efficiently. Please find below a list of our permitted and not permitted bikes.

Road Bike (recommended)

There won’t be any charging stations at pit-stops, only at the base camp

FAQs

Start address: Lee Valley Athletics Centre, 61 Meridian Way, Edmonton, London, N9 0AR
Basecamp address: Royal Windsor Raceourse, Maidenhead Rd, Windsor, SL4 5EZ

Is there an age limit?

Participants must be aged 16 years or above by the start of the event to be allowed to enter.

Participants under the age of 18 years (but over the age of 16 years) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for health and safety reasons.

Can I enter as part of a team?

We welcome teams on the event! Please see below for more info.

Teams of friends: as we need all medical and dietary info from each participant we need each individual to register individually. There will be a section on the registration form that allows you to write in your team name, so that we can link you with your other team mates. This is important so that we know to put you in the same camping zone for the event.

Corporate teams: if you are interested in entering a corporate team, please contact us at [email protected] We can invoice your company for the places to the individuals don’t have to pay on registration when signing up. We will also let you know how we can support your pre-event experience on elements such as kit design and training days.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes. Safety out on the road is paramount to us so we cannot allow you to ride without one.

Is the ULTRA for elite cyclists only?

The ULTRA isn’t designed to be the fastest. It is the ultimate challenge of endurance and our chance to showcase the best city sights and surrounding countryside. Our minimum average speed for the ULTRA event is 15 miles per hour. This is to ensure you finish safely within the timeframes of the event.

If I'm camping, do I need my own tent and sleeping mat?

No, your tent will be pitched ready and waiting for you when you arrive at basecamp and you will collect your sleeping mat when you check in to tent allocation.

You will need to bring your own sleeping bag.

Tents are 2 man pop-up tents (allocated one per person) so if you are participating in a couple you can opt to put your bags in one tent and yourselves in another.

You are not permitted to provide your own tent and camp on site.

Are the roads closed?

No. The route is set along quieter roads so there is less traffic (and they’re more beautiful). You must still cycle sensibly and safely and obey the Highway Code in order to avoid accidents.
