Cornwalls biggest running event, the Eden Marathon and Half Marathon returns with a multi-terrain route through spectacular countryside.

A firm fixture in the running calendar, the Eden Project Marathon and Half Marathon offers hilly multi-terrain courses around the famous site, following a challenging route through areas of spectacular mining heritage and beautiful countryside landscapes.

We created the course through Cornwall's dramatic Clay Country not only to offer a unique sporting experience for runners nationwide, but to showcase the unique region on our doorstep. The idea came from a conversation with the local St Austell Running Club, whose commitment, enthusiasm and passion have been invaluable in putting on the event.

The Marathon is just one of the many ways Eden aims to act as a catalyst for economic growth in the local region. If we could build this place, in a former clay pit, surely together we can all take on even bigger challenges

What type of shoes would you recommend?

For those doing the Half-Marathon the off-road surfaces are generally good underfoot and specialist off-road shoes are not necessary. For those on the Marathon the surface is varied and could be wet and muddy, hence trail shoes would be recommended.

What is the terrain like?

The course is a hilly, multi-terrain route, with the Marathon being roughly 70% on trails, paths and private roads and 30% on public roads. The Half-Marathon is 60% on public roads and 40% on trails and paths.

  • Did the Marathon in 2019

If you a small local challenging marathon with everything that cornwall can give you and a day in the Eden Project then this is for you. What an experience and I will be back for more next year!
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2019

Eden half marathon did not disappoint, after racing cardiff the week before I found eden the perfect tonic! Beautiful course (with hills, mud and some small puddles chucked in) the organisation was fantastic as were all the marshalls! Finishes of with a pasty and a beer, there isnt much more I could ask from an event!

An extremely well-organised event. The atmosphere at the start and finish was amazing. The route takes you through some stunning scenery, but we warned - it's steep!
