Route information
Returning after a sold-out first event in 2023, the Ekoi Stone Circle is back for 2024, with a brand new 55k distance to take on. Riders can choose from the 55k Festival route, perfect for gravel beginners and seasoned riders who want a more relaxed race, a 155k Historic route, with plenty of American-style hero gravel trails to tackle, and the challenging 220k Monumental route.
Based at the historic Old Sarum site in Wiltshire, the Festival Fort will offer live music, hot food, cold beer and a campsite with shower facilities to all participants. Make a weekend of it, with a new hill climb event on the Friday which includes a fancy dress competition.
After finishing the ride, cyclists will return to the Festival Fort for an evening after-party with finish-line beers and a DJ.
Monumental Route (220k, 80% gravel, 2900m of elevation)
The route heads towards stunning Salisbury Plain, with riders passing the ancient monument of Stonehenge. The rest of the route follows tracks specially licensed by the MOD, followed by the gravel tracks of the Imber Range, after which riders will arrive at the first feed station.
After Warminster, the route leaves the plains behind and enters historic Longleat Forest, famed for its ancient trees, where riders can enjoy amazing scenery and some tough climbs. The second feed station is at the Grade I-listed King Alfred's Tower, at the 100k point.
At 110k, the course switches from gravel to 25k of country lanes, along which you'll head into Dorset and the Blackmore Vale. This part of the route incorporates a disused railway line, which will provide some respite from the undulating lanes and easier riding.
The last 50k will push you to your limits with some significant climbs up onto the West Wiltshire Downs, though the views will be well worth it. After a descent from the Downs, you'll return to Old Sarum to finish your race.
Historic Route (155k, 80% gravel, 2000m of elevation)
The 155km route follows the same route as the 220km route until King Alfred’s Tower. After the Tower, the route turns east onto a series of ancient roads and Roman ridgeways, before taking riders back to Old Sarum.
Festival Route (55k, 70% gravel, 500m of elevation)
This brand-new route caters to those who are newcomers to gravel riding or who are looking to fully enjoy the after-party. Riders can expect the same incredible views of Stonehenge and the surrounding countryside.
