An adventure like no other, Escape the City will see challengers travelling by foot 40+ miles from Edinburgh to Glasgow, or Glasgow to Edinburgh to reach the escape zone in 14 hours. Plot your own route or use the recommended one, rest at safezones, and avoid patrols and zombies along the way.

Escape The City routes

In this simulated escape scenario, political upheaval, the breakdown of law and order, and the arrival of a zombie virus, has caused civilization to collapse. Under martial law, the country is now divided into infected no go areas, and oppressive restrictions on the remaining secure areas. No one is allowed to leave. You have heard of a safehaven. You just need to get there.

There is only one goal of this event: Survive and get to the Safehaven. Along the way you will need to avoid patrols, zombies, and no go zones.

The two safehavens and start/end points are Strathclyde Country Park in Glasgow, and Dalkeith Country Park in Edinburgh, and that is all you know. Participants can choose to start in either one, and must make their way to three safe zones along the way to fuel up, get first aid, and find friendly travellers; you will be given a suggested route but you can choose your own way to get there, but must take into consideration the no go zones that you must avoid.

The most direct route is 42 miles, traversing roads and track across country. If you wish to take roads only, you will travel a longer 45 miles. You must travel by foot.

Those looking for a greater challenge, you can take on the Double. Starting in Dalkeith Country Park in Edinburgh only, participants will run via the Glasgow escape zone in Strathclyde Country Park then look back to the start in under 24 hours.

From the two safehavens of Strathclyde Country Park or Dalkeith Country Park, escapees will be bussed out 26.2 miles and dropped at an undisclosed location. From there, they will follow a set route back to the finish at the safehaven of choice, avoiding the no go zones and patrols along the way.

Toddler Trail Run:

There will be Toddler Trail Runs at both escape zone sites for children up to age 5, with obstacles to tackle at their own pace. Entry to these will be available on the day for £2.
