Route information
Providing a challenge for seasoned ultra runners, and a great stepping stone for those looking to go further, the 100k & 50k Foxton Hound Ultras take runners on a journey through the beautiful countryside and villages that surround Market Harborough as they traverse the Harborough Round long distance footpath through Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.
Both routes enjoy some decent elevation, but there are some lovely downhills as well to compensate! You can view the routes and download the GPX files using the links below.
(use the ‘More’ button, then ‘Export as FIle’ to download the GPX Track file)
The routes intersect with, and/or use parts of, the following long-distance footpaths: The Jurassic Way, The Leicestershire Round, The Macmillan Way, The Midshires Way, The Richard the Third Trail, and The Uppingham Round.

For those who prefer written instructions, these are available for both routes. (50kExternalLink/100kExternalLink)
Ultimately, the routes rely on self-navigation, but we will be marking some of the more ‘tricky’ sections with tape and arrows the day before the race, as well as sections where footpaths come on and off of the road. There is always a chance of the tape / arrows being removed/tampered with, so do not rely solely on the course markings to get you round.

FAQs
What happens if I am not going to make the cut-off time at the Foxton Hound Ultra?
The cut-off times are there to ensure your safety and that of the volunteers out on the course. If you do not make the cut-off at a checkpoint you will be withdrawn from the race and asked to return your timing chip. If you do not have a way of returning to the finish, we will provide a sweeper vehicle to ensure you are able to get back to Winwick Hall.
ChevronLeft
Is the course difficult at the Foxton Hound Ultra?
This is a hefty course, with some tricky climbs and elevation gain. However, it is a good stepping stone for those wanting to increase their mileage.
ChevronLeft
Is there a minimum qualification standard required in order to enter this event?
No, we do not ask for evidence of a qualifying race to have been completed before entry. However, please be aware that 100k is not a distance to enter on a whim and we expect that participants will have actively trained for the event.
ChevronLeft
How many aid stations are there on the route?
There are 7 fairly-evenly spaced aid stations on the 100k route, 3 on the 50k route, which will each have on offer water, electrolytes and a selection of food. There will also be an extra water station on the 50k route between the last aid station and the finish.
ChevronLeft
Is the course marked?
The route follows a number of long distance footpaths, including; The Jurassic Way, The Leicestershire Round, The Macmillan Way, The Midshires Way, The Richard the Third Trail, and The Uppingham Round. We will not mark fields of livestock, but road sections will be well marked with signs, and tape will mark the route when off-road. There will be a mapbook available, as well as a GPX file to download and written instructions you can print out to follow. We will do our best to make sure you stay on track!
