Route description
Beginning on the Felling By-Pass, a short walk from the Event Village in Gateshead International Stadium, this chip-timed closed road half marathon will take you along the scenic River Tyne, past iconic landmarks such as the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, Sage Gateshead, BALTIC Centre For Contemporary Arts, Tyne Bridge and past the historic Swing Bridge.
The course will then turn back, giving you a chance to see these landmarks from a different perspective.
You will cross the finish line after running a lap of the Gateshead International Stadium track to the deafening cheers of your family and friends, a finish line that has previously seen 2 world record times run across it.
The course is fully-closed and professionally measured and marked, allowing you to concentrate on giving your best and enjoying the view along the flat and fast route.
Schedule:
09:00 Half Marathon start
Please arrive at least 45 minutes before race start to give ample time to store bags and make your way to the start line on Felling By-Pass, a short walk from the Event Village.

All runners are advised to travel by Metro to Gateshead Stadium Metro station which is a short walk from Gateshead International Stadium.
Metro trains run a frequent service from Newcastle, Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Newcastle Airport and North Tyneside. For service information and timetables please check nexus.org.uk/metro
There is a Metro Park & Ride to Gateshead Stadium Metro station from:
Callerton Parkway, Regent Centre, Four Lane Ends, Northumberland Park, Heworth and Stadium of Light Metro Stations.
By Bus
The event is also accessible by bus, however routes will be affected by road closures for the event. It is possible to get bus services to Newcastle City Centre, Gateshead or Heworth Metro Stations then use the Metro to get to Gateshead Stadium Metro Station.

The nearest train station is Newcastle Central Station (East Coast Line). Travel from Newcastle Central Station to Gateshead Stadium Metro station using the Metro.
By Car
Gateshead International Stadium is signposted from major roads in the area, however routes will be affected by road closures for the event.
A1 (from the North)
Follow the A1 Southbound until the turn off for the A184 (Gateshead Town Centre). Follow diversions along Sunderland Road to event car park at Bede Primary School OR preferable park at the most convenient Park & Ride Metro station (see above).
A1 (from the South)
Follow the A1 Northbound, turn off the A167 (Gateshead South). Pass the Angel of the North on your left. Follow road to the centre of Gateshead then follow diversions along Sunderland Road to event car park at Bede Primary School OR preferable park at the most convenient Park & Ride Metro station (see above).
A69 (from the West)
Follow the A69 until you meet the A1. From there follow directions as from the A1 North.
A19 (from the East)
Follow the A19 until you reach the Whitemare Pool roundabout. Turn right onto the A184 (Gateshead). Continue onto the A184 until Heworth roundabout, there is a Park & Ride Metro Car Park from Heworth Metro Station to Gateshead Stadium.
