Gato Sports Head Torch 10K – December route

It will be a 2-lap, traffic-free course. Salcey Forest is a very flat forest and the footpaths are well formed. Of course a forest in winter will be mucky, slippy and muddy but the route is on established pathways.

What’s Included

You'll get the same love, medal and some goodies, as at a normal Big Bear Event!

Gato Sports have kindly donated some excellent prizes for our male and female first place finishers.

Raceday Logistics

There are no entries on the day. There is a strict entry limit due to the size of the car park. Once the event gets down to the last places, we'll endeavor to make people aware of this.

Kit List
You must have a head torch to run. Our friends at Coventry Runner stock the great Gato Sports USB Head Torch if you need to purchase one. If you want to wear fairy lights, glow sticks or paint yourself in fluorescent paint, feel free – just make sure you have something to light the way. It'll be dark, as in pitch black/eyes-closed dark. You will not be allowed to race without a head torch, your mobile phone torch will not do. We won't be floodlighting the route! If you've never run at night, it's brilliant; maybe have a go beforehand but you don't need to necessarily. We will have some social night runs with Gato Sports gear to trial before the event – keep an eye on the Big Bear Events Facebook page.

What is Gato Sports?

They are our event partners. They were born in 2017 and are focused on sports, safety and durability. Key to their success is their innovative range of reflective products keeping you, ‘the athlete’, visible when out training. Whether your sport is running, cycling, hiking or horse riding, Gato Sports will keep you safe and visible in all conditions.

Coventry Runner are our local stockist. We will also be running social runs where you can try out their gear; like Big Bear Events on Facebook to see when these will be.

Is this a cupless event?

No. Unlike our other events, we will have some biodegradable cups with water/electrolyte drinks available on the course, and we will have hot drinks available before and after too. If you have a foldable cup you can bring, even better; but we don't insist on it for our short races.

The majority of our events are challenge events - multi-lap races with a time limit rather than a set distance. This means people can run all different distances on the same day, making for a great atmosphere. Lapped events can get some negative feedback but our laps are around beautiful locations. We avoid out and back laps and coming back to the wonderful aid station (full of your requests) can be a good motivator. Whether it's your A race, you need to do some long training runs, you have a 100-mile ultra in a few weeks or you want to hammer out a quick 10k, our races allow everyone to get involved together. We’re also expanding our mid-week evening 10K series too. Keep an eye out for updates on these as we are continually adding more. Expect the same care and attention and in the same great locations!

Well organized. Love running in the dark. Flat course ideal for beginners or a new PB. Could hear 🦉. Nice medal and unusually a sew on patch. Make sure your footwear has some grip
