Route description
Route description

The Northamptonshire village of Gayton sits on top of a hill, overlooking Northampton. The 5k run is a fairly flat route, taking runners through the village of Gayton on quiet, mostly single track roads. The 10k event takes runners from Gayton down single track roads over the Grand Union Canal and railway bridge, with breathtaking views of Northampton. The sting in this run is the Gayton Hill to climb back into the village to join the 5k route back to the finish line.

I did the 5k last year and the 10k this year, both routes weren't boring, no laps, nice and scenic and I was able to run with the dog :)

It was my first ever run and it was brilliant, course was well mapped out and the organisers/volunteers were great! Definitely made me want to do more in the future :) Thank you to all involved!

Very hilly course. Very good to run if you are trying to train for something bigger. Not a PB course however, due to the hills. I, personally, enjoyed the atmosphere as I had a few people from my running club who were supporting. Yet due to the country road route, the atmosphere wasn't great. Very little support outside of the few villages we ran through.Overall it was an enjoyable run.

This was my first ever official 10k event and as I am training for the London Marathon was a perfect start - apart from being so cold and windy and the course being rather hilly in places :o) I absolutely loved it - the other runners were all very friendly and supportive and I would hugely recommend this to anyone - the views from the top of the hills are well worth climbing them!!!

Ive done this race four times now and its possibly my favourite 10k. The venue has a great atmosphere, just remember to wrap up as it is very open and always colder than you expect! The course is well marked, well marshalled and beautiful. There are a few hills to test the lungs, and a nice banana and medal at the finish! Get there early if you will need the loo first as there is always a big queue.

Nice countryside run, mixture of up and down road hills, watch out for the photographer of the last hill.I was abit disappointed that the portable coffee van wasn't there for when I finished my race, well they lost there custom to maccys lol

Its a lumpy one for sure....but in the country and fitting as a winter race I think. I.e. no one is fit enough to run a pb anyway!

I have run from this venue before so was aware of the parking to race HQ distance. Despite this some additional signage as you come into the village to point runners towards the parking could be beneficial.

Great race and very well organised! The PA announcer was brilliant and did a great job motivating people and making us smile. The course is tough with a few hills but that's what makes it so much fun! Second time running it and I'll definitely be back. Thank you!

Course made a lot tougher with the strong wind against you up the hills. The whole family enjoyed this event. It is rare for us (me, wife and the 7 year old son) to all enjoy a race together yet doing different distances. A leisurely 11 oclock start also benefitted us. Great that the courses crossed over towards the end as I tried to chase down the wife and son doing the 5k. Can you start the 5k 10 minutes after the 10k next time and I might have a chance! It is a shame about the parking and traffic on that road. I finished sprinting between 2 cars as I tried to find my way to the finish line, it was dangerous but you are not always thinking straight at the end of a race. The supporters encroaching on the road did not help, may be restrict them to the opposite side of the finish for a clearer view. Cars parking on the verge did not help (red fiesta dumped in the road in particular). Those turning up late and not wishing to walk far from the specified parking or it being full is inevitable unless a marshal or lots of cones are put out. The chap on the pa system did plenty to try and stop all this but it seemed to fall on death ears for some! Thank you for the great communications before the event to confirm my son could run with his mum. Good amount of fruit and drink at the end, nice medal and we just had to buy a t-shirt! Despite some of the negatives we all thoroughly enjoyed event and we would definitely do it again. Thank you.

It was the first time i have run this race, really enjoyed it some head winds in places also incorporated some cheeky hills. Marshalls were plentiful and supportive, great atmosphere before and after the race with the comentry. I will be back next year 100 % fit to beat my time. Thanks to the organisers and all involved.

A fun race on minor (but open to traffic) roads through mostly rolling countryside with one big hill to contend with. Official parking is about 1km from the venue so allow for a 10-15min walk. The start/finish area was located on the spotlessly clean hard-standing courtyard of a farm surrounded by barns with plenty of space to fit everything in. There was a T-shirt vendor, mobile coffee vendor, two portaloos and set of urinals (judging by the queue of ladies an additional facility would be welcome). Bag drop was the floor of one of the out-buildings. The PA was clearly audible and the race started to schedule, 10k first then 5k a few minutes later. The route was well marked throughout with marshalls located at all of the changes in direction. Water at 7km, nothing else provided. Its a smallish event (

Enjoyed the course very much. Lovely views with some fairly challenging sections when running at speed (made harder with a strong headwind at 3k!) Well marshalled and no one got lost.Guy on the mic was clear and informative, alongside making sure everyone was in the place they need to be at the right time.Race shirts on sale were of good quality and having everyones names on them was a good touch. The only reason I marked 4 stars for organization was maybe one more portaloo would have made a massive difference to the queuing. NothIng major though as everyone seemed to be at the start when they needed to be. Just a possible consideration for next time.Everyone was in high spirits and really looking forward to the race beforehand. Very friendly and happy atmostphere all round. Thanks for a great race and we will definitely be looking out for it again next year.

It was a lovely sunny windy day, not to hot or cold which made the run really enjoyable because it's a different course to what I'm use to, plus my dog enjoyed the run with me :)

This is the 3rd on your marks event and I really cant fault their organisation. I signed up on the day and this didnt cause issue or delay. Plenty of marshalls for safety and routes are pleasant, despite the unexpected hill to challenge me! Recommend it.

great run for us although very hilly from what I am used to. I felt at the end once crossing the finish it would have been better to have a long channel going out as I nearly forgot to take my timing chip off (my husband did) & I had to go back for my medal as there was none there. Other than that we had a great experience.

Good race start/finish compound area. Although known in advance that roads wouldn't be closed it was disappointing to find a car travelling towards the starting pack barely 300m into the race.

Fun 1st attempt at the Gayton 10k. Fast friendly registration team. Lots of info coming over the tannoy and a nice pre-race atmosphere. Good on site coffee vendor was a plus. Course was as hilly and challenging as Id been told. Cant wait to do it again.

It was a pretty gruelling course but it was good fun and well organised for a village 10k. Not entirely sure why they dont close off the roads though!

I was able to park at the HQ, as I contacted the organisers about my Mum as she is unable to walk distance. They were more than happy to let me park there. The course was well signed and the marshals were cheering everyone on. It was a challenging course but enjoyed the run.

Really enjoyed recent Gayton 5/10k event. Great effort from Kisle Runners. As a group, we look forward to the On Your Marks events, ideal to get group members involved and a challenge to aim at Brilliant!

A really good race - very friendly welcome, a challenging route and even some sunshine. Only slight downside is that the roads are not closed, but I never felt in danger as traffic was relatively light.
