My first trail race and I managed 9th. Weather was perfect. Sun and blue skies with frozen ground underfoot. Id had a look around the course a couple of weeks beforehand and it was knee deep in snow. A few days after the race and it was covered in snow again so perfect timing. Great atmosphere and really well organised.

The route and atmosphere on the day was amazing. Very tough course made even more difficult by the weather and elements. Tough long uphill sections, technical forest trail, never ending switch backs, and tough uneven downhill dashes. All in all - everything you can ask for in a trail run. Just glad I wasn't doing the double - legs were gone by the end. Amazing event and definitely be back.

This was a really tough race on varied terrain. Lots of big climbs, physically challenging, but I'm glad I did it

Basic information is good but the at that day registration waiting time was a bit long, outside was cold you know.

Did the half in November which really helped me work out kit requirements and pacing. Get a bladder pack or a vest with bottle space at the front. Not drinking on the climbs will finish you off.

Glentress is always a challenge and differs greatly dependent on the weather conditions leading up to the race and the conditions on the day. Three years in a row running it and each year it feels like a whole different race. Its always an awesome challenge. Shoe choice is crucial :)

Kit was made very clear prior. The course was tough as I expected but I had signed up to it as part of my preparation for an ultra that I am running next month with similar terrain. Scenery was beautiful. All marshals supportive, friendly and full of motivation to the runners. Plenty of food and drinks at the halfway point.I would run the course again. A well organised event.

I have ran this race before but this year there was some improvements, the half was not on the same day and we got medals so the organisers clearly listened to feedback. We also went right to the top of the hill this year which was ace. There is usually snow on the ground for this race and the challenging terrain of tree roots swinding tracks mean trail shoes are best and you need to keep your wits about you so you don't trip. The first lap is busy but on the second lap the field thins out and you are on your own for parts of it so you can zone out and enjoy the fantastic scenery. Its not a PB course as its so hilly but more like an ultra in effort and a very rewarding race to complete. Low key and relaxed you are sure to have a great day out at Glentress.

It was a beautiful day in a superb location but unfortunately I tore my calf at nearly exactly the halfway mark and had to limp home :-(.I still had a great day though (helped by Scotland beating England at the rugby)

Take your time and enjoy God's awesome creation! Such stunning views!Don't overdress! We were freezing at start but at top of first hill you will b ok with 2 layers ie 1 base layer and thin windproof jacket for exposed areas. Carry own supplies. Trail shoes a must.

Fantastic course and perfect conditions. My friend won a prize in the half marathon and we both thought it was very poor that the prize money didnt exceed the entry fee.

It feels like it's 5 miles uphill then 1 down, but so much fun! Everyone was super lovely and it was really well organised - caf gets really busy before the races but my dad and dog (cheerleaders) found a seat to wait at after the start until I got back. I think maybe it would be hard for all the spectators to fit in the cafe on a bad weather day, but we had sunshine!

Loved the run. Done it for the first time last year so had to do it again in 2018. Might try the Marathon in 2019.Off road trainers are a must and should be a requirement. The only thing that I think would help would be to stagger the start just a little bit. Ended up with a few bottlenecks early in the run. Other than that great!

This is a really excellent race, challenging with the hills and plenty (more than I expected) of lovely technical single track, and some ice to add to the fun. The steep hill at 10 miles was a shock! Some great views. Wasn't sure what shoes would be best but went with Inov-8 X-Talon 212s (my favourites for racing) and they were perfect.

Great variable and tough course. Muddy bits, snowy bits, icy bits. All information provided before race and although queue for registration got to start in plenty of time. Might be useful to know the course if you want a good time but well marked throughout and I was glad not to know what was coming next. Last water stop was not manned which is a bit of challenge if you need to refill bottle. I just too drink from one of the smaller large containers as I still had water left.

Amazing course, really enjoyed the day. I think the requirement to carry full length waterproofs is totally overkill, and should maybe be weather-dependent. Or make any extra kit optional and we sign a waiver. Otherwise a great event, I'll be coming back.

A lovely race. It might be an idea to do a staged start as due to single file trails it was difficult to pass other runners all along the course. At Keswick 25k this worked quite well (8 different group starts) and stopped bunching up at the start, otherwise a great day. Thank-you

It was a tough trail run with a lot of hills. It is understood that the course was different than the previous year with the route harder this year. There were a number of people wearing headphones during the race which due to the nature of a number of the trails I felt this was hazardous especially when overtaking downhill. I think it would be very important for this event to indicate that headphones are not allowed at this event and should be banned.Well organised event. Good signs, Encouraging marshals when you saw them.I would do it again.

Could have done with a pair of trail shoes instead of road runners. Also the free snood came in handy at the top as it was really cold once out of trees.

Very hilly! Excellent event. Some difficulty with directions up on tee hill, but not a problem when I was with a few others. The start finish area could be more spread out so we didnt get in the way of the finishing runners

Wonderful experience. Together with 6 running mates from Holland we decided to go for this trail in Scotland. Though tough for us flat country runners, we enjoyed every minute of it. Great course, great views, challenging run.Kit requirements seem pretty strict and can be somewhat offputting.A clear profile of the ascending meters would be really helpful.

This was my first trail run. I've been thinking about it for a while as I generally find running, especially on the road, very boring. I'm familiar with GT as I MTB there regularly so I thought I'd have a crack at this trail run. I'd never run up hills that size before so I found the first 4km really tough however it became easier after that and as my body wormed up a bit. The weather was good, trails were good, and organisation was also good. I'm glad I did it and am now looking at the next challenge :-)

A lovely area to be. Love Glentress. The course itself was very good although not so great if you don't like hills. Other races in this area are fairly undulating, but this race had a very long slog up a hill to start, and a very long steep descent at the end.

Interesting varied terrain, could have made it up to the full 42k, unsure why it wasn't? But glad in the end as it was every bit as tough as some end to end mountain marathons. Good start to the running year!

The course was really fun with some stunning views at the top! I liked how the up and downhills were mixed in it made the course go by so quickly because the terrain was so varied. It was my first half marathon and all the marshals were very encouraging which helped a lot. It was an amazing day and I would love to come back next year to have another go.

This race had a beautiful course. There was a perfect amount of single track and a huge variation in terrain to keep it interesting throughout. We did luck out with the gorgeous weather but I would have enjoyed it rain or shine. If someone were doing their first half trail race I would highly recommend this race. Another benefit is that the forest is so close to Peebles which is a beautiful town. It makes for a beautiful weekend if you need to stay overnight.
