Hameldown Hammer & 7EVEN routes

The Hameldown Hammer, like our Dartmoor Volcano race, is another tough, challenging trail race, designed to be a serious test of endurance. The Hammer has a total ascent of over 600m. It is 98% trail, over a series of well-defined, grassy, rocky, sometimes muddy tracks and through forestry glades. Most significantly, there is a double ascent of the Hameldown Ridge.

The Hameldown Hammer and 7EVEN rise high and steep. They afford spectacular views of the Moor and Tors, with some of the best trail running Dartmoor has to offer.

The shorter race, the Hameldown 7EVEN (The ‘Long 10k’), has in excess of 300m of ascent and still includes a double ascent of the Hameldown ridge.

I am so glad the first aid was on course as I took a little fall. This didn't stop me as I was determined to complete such a stunning but tough course in heartland of Dartmoor

Only did the 10k as it was my first challenging race back from injury. Definitely took a lot of mental strength to get up those hills at times but still an awesome event.

I wish I had improved kit at this was a tough course. So my variety in the terrain throughout the half marathon. My hardest challenge to date.

This race deserves respect!! It has got to be my toughest half marathon to date!! Tough course across Dartmoor with just about every possible weather condition Dartmoor could throw at you the year I did it!! Very well organised and no chance of getting lost as the course was marked very well. I will be back to repeat it again, on a nice day though!!

It was a great run and we were really lucky with the weather. I would recommend it to any keen trail runner.

A well organised race with possibly the most detailed course marking I have ever seen (flag about very 30-50 yards). The route climbs the Hameldown 'massif' from 3 directions all of which are largely runnable (if you don't have a winter cold like me) with great views on a clear day. I took the organisers advice and parked up on the Moor and ran to the start but there seemed to be enough parking in Widecombe if you arrived reasonably early.

Well organised and all appropriate information supplied in plenty of time. Even the weather was perfect - thanks for getting that right.
