Route information
The course of this beautiful undulating to hilly on well-maintained loose gravel paths passes through the middle of scenic Hamsterley Forest Drive. Runners will get to enjoy the serenity and beauty of the forest in the fall, and even have the opportunity for some wildlife watching.
Course Laps:
10K - 1 lap
Half Marathon - 2 Laps + partial lap
Please run on the left hand side of the road in order to allow faster runners to pass on your right.
Your results will be recorded by a timing mat ever lap, showing your split times.
The course has a TRA Race Permit, with a Course Accuracy Certificate
Refreshment Stations: Every 3.1 miles, there will be a food and drink station. These will be stocked with water and electrolyte drinks in paper cups, various sweet, chocolates and cakes. At registration, you will have the option to leave personal nutrition at the food stop.
Toilets: Portable toilets will be available at registration and on the course

Car Parking:
The Forest is roughly 10 miles west of Bishop Auckland. The nearby roads, particularly the A68, will direct you to the car park with signage. Car Parking will be charged.
Event day logistics
  • 10:00am: Half Marathon
  • 10:30am: 10k
N.B. There will be a cut-off 4 hours after the race has begun (2pm)
Please be aware phone signal is very poor in and around Hamsterley Forest.
Registration takes place at the Start/Finish Area, which is near Grove Car Park, in the Southern area of Hamsterley Forest (DL13 3QN)
Registration will be from 08:00 to 10:15. On the day entry is available at £2 extra fee.

Spectator Info
The area has plenty of opportunities for spectating, although you may get distracted by the stunning views and potential for wildlife watching. You might want to go for a peaceful wander while the race is happening.
Kit List
The course is on a good path, however it is still recommended to take caution and wear shoes that are fully suitable for the terrain. It is requested that runners do NOT wear headphones, for safety reasons.
What is the cut-off time for the Hamsterley Forest 10k & Half?
All races have a cut off time of 4 hours.
Can you sign up for the Hamsterley Forest 10k & Half on the day?
On the day entry is available for an additional cost of £2.
When will I receive my race pack for the Hamsterley Forest 10k & Half?
Race packs will need to be collected on the day, from the registration tent situated at the start/finish area near Grove Car Park, DL13 3QN
Am I allowed to wear Headphones?
No, for safety reasons you are asked not to wear headphones during the race.
Is there any event merchandise?
Yes, at registration you will have the option of buying a finisher's t-shirt (£10) or hoodie (£20)
Will there be baggage storage?
There will be a baggage storage located at the registration tent, however, baggage is left at your own risk. Please put your own labels with your name and race number on your bags.

A challenging, hilly course with great scenery and fantastic volunteers. Helped by Electrolyte drinks and Haribo every 3 miles.
