Hamsterley Forest is the largest forest in County Durham and covers 4900 square acres. Both routes will follow the tracks and trails within the beautiful forest park, where you will enjoy stunning views of the valley. They will be undulating in parts but you will be rewarded by the scenery and if you're lucky you may also spot some local wildlife.
The forest is an ideal location for trail running with a mixture of well marked footpaths, forest trails and woodland tracks. With two distances available this event is perfect for both experienced trail runners and anyone new to the sport.
Water and nibbles will be provided at mile 5, mile 10 and at the finish area.

Hamsterley Forest is on the East edge of the North Pennines and can be accessed from the A68 or the A688.
There are plenty of car parking spaces but participants are encouraged to car share when possible. Discounted parking charges apply.

You will collect your race number at registration on the day.
You must be at least 18 years old to take part.
It is normal for the temperature to fall below freezing at this time of the year, therefore there is a mandatory kit list:
- A fully charged mobile phone
- The capacity to carry 500ml of water (this can be re filled at the aid stations)
- A foil blanket or emergency bivvy bag
- Fully waterproof jacket with taped seams
- At least 1 additional (not being worn at the start) base layer top,
- Full length leggings (can be worn at the start)
- Warm hat and gloves (can be worn at the start)

We are bringing some of the best racing formats from other adventure sports to the running community, and in some of the most beautiful and dramatic places in the UK, ranging from 10k head torch races in local woodland all the way up to ultra-marathon distance events on the fells and mountains of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Can I run with my dog at the Hamsterley Forest Winter Trail Half Marathon and 10k?
Dogs are permitted at the event, but they must be secured to you at all times, you must start at the back of the field and you must supply your own insurance.

There will be prizes for the first 3 open men and women, and for 1st places 40-49, 50-59 and 60+.
