Route information
The Triathlon and Duathlon take place in the small town of Harlech, which is home of the world's steepest street as well as the stunning 13th Century Harlech Castle.
The Sprint Triathlon consists of:
  • Swim 400m
  • Cycle 21.5k
  • Run 5.5k
Swim
The swim takes place in the leisure centre pool, making it accessible for beginner triathletes. With three to a lane and marshals counting your lengths, all you have to focus on is your swimming.
Bike
Once you have completed your swim you will head to transition and onto the bike. Exiting transition and heading out towards Ynys on the flat and fast coast road, you turn up towards the Castle and enter the closed road section of this exciting route. Pushing your legs to the max as you climb the hill towards Harlech, you can try and admire the impressive view, or just wait until you reach the turn-around point and watch it all rush by on the way back down. It's a simple out and back route and you will soon be back in transition ready for the run.
Run
In the shadow of the castle, the run takes you across the beautiful dunes and along the impressive Harlech beach. Once off the beach and running through the lower Harlech streets you are now in full view of your final challenge, to run up the 108 steps and Storm The Castle!
The Duathlon Consists of:
  • Run 5k
  • Cycle 21.5k
  • Run 2.2k
Run
Starting near the beach and running down the side of the transition under the shadow of the castle, the first run takes you across the beautiful dunes and along the Harlech beach. Coming off the beach, you head into transition so you can take on the bike.
Cycle
The cycle will take on the same route as the Triathlon.
Run
Leaving transition in reverse and heading to the lower streets of Harlech, you have one final challenge left, you must now run up the 108 steps, Storm The Castle and cross the finish line!

Getting to Harlech is fairly straight forward if you're driving from the North Wales coast. The most direct way is to follow the A55 to Junction 19, this will take you on a stunning journey throught the Conwy Valley and out to Blaenau Ffestiniog on the A470 road. After Blaenau, you will take the A496 road, looking out for signs for Harlech.

Direct services (including Virgin Trains from London to Bangor) take you to the popular North Wales coastal destinations from most parts of Britain. Make inland connections via the Conwy Valley Line which runs through the Snowdonia National Park to Betws-y-Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog. Services from the Midlands through Shrewsbury and Machynlleth link up with the Cambrian Line.
Harlech train station serves the town centre of Harlech in Gwynedd with regular services by Arriva Trains Wales on the Cambrian Line. Trains from Harlech operate once every two hours in both directions, Monday through Saturday. During summer, three Sunday trains serve the station.
