Participants will run / walk 21 miles over the vast imposing landscape of the Peak District. The ambient lighting of the low sun on this unique day of the year will provide stunning cinematic views that will have you taking countless mental snapshots.
You will weave the natural terrain on rough paths through the valleys and bends of Edale. You'll chase the skyline across this undulating route, appreciating the cool warmth of the Winter sun on the shortest day of the year.

You will have the option to run or walk the event, with a group split letting some runners take a faster journey while others will seek to get around the course within 8 hours.

This guided run is aimed to help people feel comfortable and confident to travel independently through the countryside, in any weather, at any time. There is so much that can be learned from the guides, and from taking part in an event like this.

What is the pace of the Heart of Darkness?
The organiser can form different pace groups on the day so that faster people can be finished up to an hour ahead of the “sunsetters”. To finish in 7 hours 50 is brisk walking pace with a photo stops. It will be weather dependent on the day and safety concerns will always dictate pace but assume brisk walking on the steep uphills, jogging or running on the flats and picking your way carefully down the descents. It is a doable challenge.

The guided run runs from sunrise to sunset, which is estimated to be 7 hours and 50 minutes.
