COURSES
Triathlon:
The swim leg will begin with a processional start in the state-of-the-art Westminster Lodge Pool. Transition will be located just a quick sprint away in the wonderful historic setting of Verulamium Park. Our bike leg will be undertaken in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, taking in the quiet roads and picturesque villages of Hertfordshire and then it's onto a fast and challenging park run to finish.
Duathlon:
The Duathlon run legs will be contained within the superb grounds of Verulamium Park. The bike leg will take you out into the beautiful surrounding Hertfordshire countryside for a fast and enjoyable race.
Aquathlon:
Our Aquathlon race will start in the Westminster Lodge pool, before heading out onto the run leg, which will be conducted within the confines of the beautiful Verulamium Park, finishing to a warm welcome from friends and family in our Sports Village.
5K/10K Run
Two of the most popular distances on offer for the Festival of Sport St. Albans: 10K and 5K. Both runs will be set in the beautiful Veralamium Park and will be testing, safe and fun. There are lots of opportunities along our routes for spectators to cheer you on and you will finish in the sports village to a hero’s welcome over the finish line.
The 10k is two laps of the 5k
Aquabike
The Aquabike race is an endurance sport composed of the swimming and cycling stages of a triathlon. The running stage is eliminated so that people who are unable to run, or do not wish to run can still participate.
Sootathlon
Scootathons are a fantastic addition to multi-sport events, allowing budding kid Olympians to take their first steps in multi-sport eventing. Sign up your son or daughter and put their feet firmly on a sporting path.
The Scootathon involves a 200m run, followed by a 400m scoot, finishing in a 400m cycle to the finish line and our Scootathon. We will supply scooters and bikes but you are more than welcome to bring your own*. Children are guaranteed to enjoy this fun, safe and challenging race.
Children younger than 6 years old will be required to bring their own bikes and scooters. Please ensure that scooters have large enough wheels to be able to run on grass.
Please note that kids Scootathon is not a chip timed event

Did the race in 2019
I've run a lot of races over the years and I've got to say that the Hercules Events 10k at St Albans was easily one of the worst. Firstly, why request people make an extra journey to pick up race packs the day before? Why not just post them out like everyone else does? Secondly, the pre-race briefing was completely inaudible, so it wasn't really clear where those taking part in the 10k were supposed to divert. The start wasn't time staggered meaning faster runners had to weave their way past the slower competitors. The marshalling was sporadic to say the least and the layout of the cones meant that you could cut corners or were unsure where you were mean to be running. On one occasion I was recalled by a marshal for running on the wrong path. Runners also had to negotiate their way round dog walkers, pushchairs and footballers on route. The course was also short. I know this because I beat my PB by about two and a half minutes! My wife's GPS calculated that the 5k course was 220m short, meaning that the 10k was around 440m short. There was also no drinks station on route. I sometimes take part in our local park run (Hemel Hempstead) and I would say the organisation is far better - and it's free! Hercules Events should be ashamed to charge people £20 for this race. Let's hope they learn from their experience.
