Route information
Terrain Trails
Elevation Hilly
All routes will be off-road, taking participants through the grounds of the beautiful Hermitage House Nature Reserve, which hosts woodlands, grasslands and wetlands that are brimming with local wildlife. The three courses will be extensively signposted and well-marshalled.
The 5k and 10k trails will start and finish at Hermitage of Braid House and have routes up and over Blackford Hill. There will be a couple of challenging hills to contend with. Both the 5k and 10k routes consist of one lap of a mixed-terrain course, providing stunning views across Edinburgh and the Forth.
The 1.2k fun run is up and down the main drive to the Hermitage House. All proceedings from the fun run will go to South Morningside Primary School and additional contributions will also support the Friends of the Hermitage and Blackford Hill. Participating children will all receive an elf hat to wear and keep after the event.

Please note there is no parking in the Hermitage. You'll be able to park on the surrounding streets including Braid Road and then walk to the start line/registration.

Lothian bus routes 5, 11, 15, 16, N11 & N16 stop close to Hermitage of Braid.

Age Requirements
- Runners for the 10k must be aged 16 or above.
- Runners for the 5k must be aged 11 or above.
- The 1.2k Fun Run is open to everyone.
Restrictions
This course is not suitable for Canicross runners - please do not bring your dog/s. The 10k and 5k routes are not suitable for pushchairs, prams or buggies, but they can be used in the Fun Run.
Race Numbers
Race numbers will be issued at registration.
Toilets
Limited male and female public toilets and additional portaloos will be located at the stables by the main Hermitage of Braid House and the start/finish area.
Changing
There will be a small change tent by the finish line to leave kit in for after the race. Please mark your belongings with your race number.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded in the 10km and 5km to the first 3 male and female runners, the first O40 male and female and 1st junior male and female (in the 5km) - unless in the top 3 overall and then a roll down applies. No prizes will be awarded for the Fun Run.
FAQs
Are there any age restrictions for the Hermitage 10k, 5k & 1.2k Trail Runs?
There aren't any age restrictions for the 1.2k fun run but runners for the 10k must be aged 16 or over and runners for the 5k must be aged 11 or over to take part.
Can I run in both the 5k and the 1.2k fun run at the Hermitage 10k, 5k & 1.2k Trail Runs?
Absolutely you can! The 10k and 5k start at 09:45 and 09:50 respectively, so there's plenty of time to run and make it back in time for the 1.2k starting at 11:30.
Can I bring my children to the Hermitage 10k, 5k & 1.2k Trail Runs?
Of course, children are most welcome! There'll be festive elf hats for children to run in for the 1.2k fun run.
Can I run with a pushchair / buggy at the Hermitage 10k, 5k & 1.2k Trail Runs?
Unfortunately the 10k and 5k routes are not suitable for buggies, but the 1.2k Fun Run can accommodate them.
