Heyford Duathlon Standard and Sprint - June routes

RAF Upper Heyford was a prominent airbase during the Second World War and the Cold War and racers will be able to immerse themselves in the history of the venue.

Consisting of a 10KM run, 40KM cycle, then a further 5KM run, the standard duathlon is a real test of endurance.

The first run will take place on the disused runways with RAF Upper Heyford airbase and will be a lapped course, with athletes completing it twice.

From here, cyclist will complete 4 laps of a 10KM course and get to explore this historic airbase in its entirety.

Finally, athletes will finish off with one more lap of the 5KM running route.

The sprint's first run will follow the same course as the standard race, however only completing one run.

Similarly, sprint cyclist's will make their way around this intriguing airbase - completing the 10KM course twice.

Finally, the participants will finish with a quick 2.5KM run.

Given the nature of the venue, this race is entirely flat and racers will have the chance to set a quick time in this great setting.

Meet the organiser

The Race Organiser creates outstanding opportunities for people to bring out their best run, swim or cycle performance. We seek out the most inspiring and rewarding locations, develop race routes and event formats, and create a brilliant atmosphere and race day experience – offered at the best possible value. We don’t think it’s ok to ask people who are aspiring to do amazing things to pay huge sums of money, so we charge as little as we can afford, rather than as much as we can get away with.

Fairly well organised event however the course was completely soul destroying!!! Considering the amount of space available on the air base i don’t understand why we had to run and cycle in such a small area and just up and down. The runway that was used for part of the cycle was like riding on cobbles and far from suitable for road/race bikes (i think my mountain bike would have been better). Also being present for the 5k/10k/1/2 marathon day and seeing how much of the air base was used for their run routes why couldn’t they be used for the duathlon??? Unless the course is changed dramatically i will
not be returning next year. Also over priced for for the lack of course.

Transition was on a really stoney part of the track. There were plenty of smooth parts. If the transition area is that stoney a mat should be laid.

Not gunna lie, this one did not get on with me. I don't think it was anything particularly to do this the organisation as I've been to their events before and loved. Just not my day I think!

It was good but was a bit of an odd course to run along side bit like that. Kind of nice to do something very different though
