Route information
Isaac's Tea Trail Ultra Marathon
Distance: 37 miles
Elevation: 1500m
This awesome journey will take you through some of the most amazing countryside in the UK. The race follows Isaac's Tea Trail, a 37-mile loop starting and finishing in Allendale. Runners will head through Nenthead, Alston and Ninebanks on the loop, staying entirely within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The landscape is stunning, made up of heather moors and peatlands, beautiful dales, flower filled meadows, quiet villages and picturesque woodlands. You will come across supportive communities, glimpses of the mining history, and a brilliant variety of plants, birds and animals.
The route will follow the finger posts and Isaac's Tea Trail markers, as well as there being marshals placed at key points along the route. But these factors aside this is a self navigating challenge and you will be provided with a route description, map, the Trail Guide Book and a GPX file for anyone using a GPS device.
Runners will have 12 hours to complete the challenge, which works out at approximately 3 mph. The current record is held by Cees van der Land who completed the course in 6 hours 40 minutes!
