Ride through where the Thames cuts the Chilterns at Goring, up into the jagged profile of the Chiltern Hills, on a mix of surfaces to test your pace, performance and handling.

This is the fourth year for the original CX Sportive, returning once again to Woodcote and this excellent Chilterns course!
The final stretch south levels out to take some the strain out of your last miles back to the finish. Amazingly, the route design fits the full 80km route into an area that never sees you more than 6km in straight line from the event base! Excellent for winter ride support, or if you need to cut back in a hurry!

At a time when the dark, cold and conditions make skinny tyre road riding about us unappealing as it gets, CX Sportives are the smart choice, with the pace, variety and atmosphere to spur you on through the winter weather!

80, 60 & 40km course options.

CX Sportive is an exciting new ride format. It’s ideal for your cross bike, but equally suitable for your XC MTB or even road winter training bike, tweaked for a little rough stuff!* The course mixes back roads, interwoven with byways and a few short tougher off road links that will certainly bring on the heat!

All good. Advertised as a CX event but we rode this on MTBs no problem.

Just about survived on 38 tyres - any less wouldve been a real struggle.

I rode a 29er hardtail, with chunky 2.2 tubeless tyres. No punctures but very heavy in the thick mud. Thankfully I wasnt one of the many CX riders I saw doing trail-side puncture repairs. I rode on my own, but enjoyed the vibe and excitement of a well organised and well planned course. I loved it!For me, the off road sections are the draw, linked together by sections of road, tracks, etc. For others its the other way around - good, fast, road sections interrupted by slow, muddy, rough sections. If you can handle it all, youll love the Gravelcross. Be a groady!

Lots of mud, so CX with cross tyres or MTB was essential. A great route that was well signed. Lots of quiet sections of bridleway, gravel path and minor road made for a pleasant ride. Very well organised.

Did most the series in 2012 and given the low numbers involved was surprised the events were continued . This years event seemed better supported I recognised much of the organising team and the event was well posted and therefore hassle free will return I left it too long I do enjoy the mixed surface format offered here

Well organised as always , great to have the GPX available . The last muddy section through the woods is always hard work, so best to keep just a little extra energy in the tank, or grab a gel.
  • Did the Full Route in 2018

I have a cross bike but with a single chainring it is geared for racing rather than longer sportives so I rode my hard tail 29er. A good choice given the muddy conditions.
  • Did the Full Route in 2016

Parts of the course were super-muddy so knobbly tires help. On the more exposed road sections a windproof top is a must.
  • Did the Full Route in 2018

One of my favourite CX/Gravel events. I have ridden the same event almost every year and only missed riding the event last year due to other CX commitments.
