Did the Marathon Race in 2019
This was my first Marathon and certainly not an easy option but the breathtaking scenery and wide variety of terrain to cover kept me distracted from the tiredness in my legs. The uphill sections were frequent but never so long that they weren't manageable (with a fair bit of hiking). The course took us through some incredible places, the loop around Tarn Hows was gorgeous and I loved running through misty woodland when the cloud dropped down to meet us. I was surprised at how technical the terrain became towards the end of the run, some very tricky trails but adding to the overall experience. I would definitely do this event again but I just need a bit of a rest first.… read more

Route description

Starting and finishing at Landing Point, Coniston Old Hall near Coniston village, the 10K Coniston Trail Run, 15K Coniston Trail Race and 15K Coniston Trail Challenge follow circuits along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways, taking in panoramic views of Lake Coniston and the surrounding peaks of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags. Underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to off road running, although there is one short section on the 15K routes which only agile mountain goats will be able to run!

A carnival atmosphere is guaranteed for both spectators and competitors, with live music, race commentary, food and drink all available at the start and finish. So, whether you're new to trail running, an experienced athlete, or simply looking for an unforgettable day out in the Lake District, a family-friendly, festival atmosphere and some amazing trail running awaits you!
