Marathon
The eyes of the world will be focused on the main event of the weekend — the Life Time Miami Marathon. Friends, family and curious spectators will line the roadways to cheer on the many that choose to run through this epic city.
Runners will experience an epic flat course that is USTAF-certified, single-loop, and a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. A couple course features that are worth noting:
- There are several bridges along the course with a very slight incline.
- Digital time clocks will be positioned throughout the course.
- Course markers, directional arrows and other signage will be positioned throughout the course.
- Several digital clocks at the Finish Line will display unofficial times.
- The full and half marathon will feature entertainment along the course for both spectators and runners.
Please line up in the Start Line area according to your corral listed on your race bib.
Half Marathon
The Miami Half Marathon is a favorite for runners throughout the world. Many come to Miami for the fast, dramatically inspiring course. Runners start with their friends and finish across the same finish line at Bayfront Park. The only deviation occurs in the last 800 meters of the race where the half marathon breaks off and heads to the finish line at Bayfront Park, where the grand finish festival commences, and runners can celebrate their achievement with new friendships that only an event like this can form.
Elevation Information
The truth is, Miami and Miami Beach are at sea level and there are really no noticeable elevation changes. However, there does need be a way to get from one beautiful piece of land to another without having to swim, therefore all descriptions of bridges, or as they say in Miami, “hills” are listed below:
- A quarter mile into the race there is the largest bridge of the course – the MacArthur Causeway – (9 meters above sea level) that connects to Watson Island.
- At the 2.5-mile mark there is a second incline that is a less gradual incline, but much lower height than the first. This connects to the island of Miami Beach.
- From mile 8 to about mile 11, you will cross the Venetian Causeway to return to mainland Miami. This span is essentially flat with a small incline on the last portion of the causeway.
- At the 13.1-mile mark there’s a drawbridge that gives you an incredible view of the Miami River, but isn’t too tall of a bridge.
- At the 25.7-mile mark you go over a drawbridge for a bit of a challenge toward the end of your on-course journey but as you go up, you’ll begin to hear the cheers and the pumping music of the Finish Line.
Time Limits
In order to comply with city permits, the roads will reopen in a graduated fashion. We require that participants be properly prepared and trained to complete the full marathon (26.2 miles) within 6 hours (14 min/mile pace). However, the full marathon finish line will remain open for 7 hours (16 min/mile pace). Please note that after the 6-hour pace, participant support (e.g. aid and water stations, volunteers, course marshals, clocks, etc.) is NOT guaranteed, and you will be required to adhere to local pedestrian rules (move to curbsides, break down lanes, sidewalks, etc.). Medals and official finish times will be given to all finishers who complete the race within 7 hours.
Checkpoint
Marathon participants must reach the 12.8-mile mark within 3:15 in order to be allowed to continue.
