Route description

The route is undulating to hilly, with a significant climb tackled twice, once soon after the start and the second towards the end. The climb though is rewarded with a long downhill along Lodge Drive towards Longleat House for the finish.

For children and family and friends we welcome you to enter the Longleat 2 Mile Fun run. This popular support event covers the first lap of the 10km, up the hill through to the Bath Arms then the magnificent run down Lodge Drive to the finish line.

Starting off from the magnificent back drop of Longleat house you move off into the estate grounds for a flat start to get your pace on for a mile or so to a steady climb, a push up to the top of the hill , in two parts with s the satisfaction that what goes up ,must come down!though horninsham village which is part is the greater Longleat Estate, back into the grounds with a long straight back to the house , the crowds giving encouragement to everyone on the run ! This is where the 2k finishes and the 10k runners split of to the second loop, leaving the grounds to the back of the house through parts of the forest along peaceful lanes back into the estate grounds, and to compete the 3rd loop following the route of the first, knowing you have the hills to come ! Great run for beginners to push themselves, and for experienced runners ?, well sorts out the wheat from the chaff!!

if You like hills then youll love Longleat 10k. Competitors start and finish on the main drive facing The Beautiful Longleat House . This is a great event for spectators and there is a 2k run for The Little ONEs.Finishers receive a medal and a well stocked good bag.. One of my favourite races that I use in my Winter training.

First time at this event, and I have to say it was great. My Daughter ran the 2 mile and I ran the 10k. We ran together for the first lap which was great, I left her at the finish and went on to complete the 10k. Meet up at the finish collected our medal, bags. And went of home. No problem at all. Looking forward to this event again next year.

I really enjoyed the event. Repeating the hill at the end again was hard work and would be good if the route could be amended to only include this hill once. Even if another hill was sought. The goody bag was fabulous too and had a really good mixture of products. The electrolyte tablets were particularly good and I added mine to my small bottle of water straight away.

This is a fairly challenging 10k with a number of hills totalling around 600ft of elevation. The moment you finish a hill there is an immediate downhill to help you recuperate which is satisfying. It's very a very well organised event with sections of the start line designated for runners intending to finish at certain time intervals. The coolness of the time of year really helps as well. So in summary it's a great course, on tarmac, and you have to like a bit of hill climbing.

Really enjoyed it! Longleat is one of my favourite places (we even named our wedding tables after areas in the safari park) so to be able to run on the estate was fantastic. My friend particularly wanted to run it in under an hour so i tried my best to pace her round but it was fairly hilly so didn't quite make it. Liked the t-shirt, goody bag excellent and nice bottle of milkshake at the end. And so many comments on the medal! Will be back again and again even though I live in Edinburgh! Thank you

This was the first time that I ran the Longleat 10K - and almost 4 years since I last ran a 10K! It was an ideal benchmark race as I am presently training for my first half-marathon taking place in March Id read previous reviews and saw that other runners had advised arriving early as it took a long time to get in. I arrived at 8:45am without any issues (the only hold up was that a huge flock of sheep had decided that they were going to cross the road on the approach to the house - single file I must add! - so that held a few of us up for several minutes). The event was well organised - I gave 4/5, which is perhaps a little harsh as my main gripe is that the voluntary seeding zones were not very well marked out. Whether it was due to wind blowing away signs or markers, Im not sure, but nevertheless, it wasnt clear. The route is fantastic and probably slightly more challenging due to the number of ascents and descents - not many actual flat parts to the course. My target was to finish in under 1 hour, which is did at 56:56 so I was very happy with that! The weather wasnt great but it didnt dampen spirits, if anything it was probably almost at the ideal temperature - not to warm nor was it too cold. Longleat is a fantastic location for a run, it was a shame that nothing else was open (aside from a kiosk serving refreshments) which allowed for making more of a day out of it and keeping little ones entertained. There was a queue to exit the car park afterwards, however I waited it out for 10-15mins and by that time it had cleared up, great traffic management from the stewards.

I love this race, the route is amazing, the hills are nothing compared to the finish that never gets any closer no matter how fast you run. This course is definitelya pb course if you were so inclined. The medal is great and it was the best goodie bag I have had for a long time. The results are very detailed too. I will definitely be back and its a great start to the New Year race calendar.

Raced for the first time in 2017, came back for a 2nd year in 2018. This year was well organised and ran like clockwork. It is a tough course , hard to find the right pace due to the hills and long downhills. But it is one of my favourite races of the year, great location, challenging and a great atmosphere. WIll certainly be back for more in 2019 ( just a shame its only once a year ).

Amazing setting. Very challenging course with two steep climbs and another which was more drawn out. I have been running this race for years and I always feel Ive earned so much reward. Ive even started longer hikes around this part of Wiltshire with Horningsham as base. Get your hill training going and give it the beans on the fast downhill parts, especially the last K. The ground is all just basic service roads with a few metal grates to go over. Its held the time of year when its quite cold when you start but after the first climb 2k in, you will have warmed up again and at a more steady rate. The numbers seemed slightly down this year which is a shame. The medal is iconic in its simplicity and the goody bag is always great. The Longleat house is quite the feature as well as all the animal statues that are placed around the grounds, some more hidden than others.I wore normal road running shoes with some silicon heel pads and that really helped on the steeper downhill parts. No issue with GPS signal for my sports watch.

In a nutshell - Longleat 10k - more than slightly undulating .... a tale of two hills! The most challenging 10k you'll run - be prepared for almost a mile incline (twice), but then a real steep downhill sweep straight after, that you can well and truly get your speed up. It's fair to say, if you've practiced some hill running - you can still get your PB here!! Well organised event. No queues at registration, despite 1200+ people descending on Longleat for the 10am start. Great venue too - will definitely be back for a 3rd year in 2019!

Two things for me that let the event down.1. Lack of atmosphere once out on route not even any encouragement from Marshals as you ran by.2. Not enough Marshals out on route especially at points such as cattle grids etc, my HS mode took over and was thinking what if something serious injury happened who do you get in contact with as many parts of the route wasnt covered either by marshal or spectators. All in all this was my 3rd 10k and Ill be back for a 4th.

First race of the year and no one mentioned the hills...... hills I said I meant the mountains my poor legs still hurt 2 days later. But I have to admit apart from London marathon this has been the funniest race I have done. The atmosphere was amazing the wether was great with rain when needed. I love longleat anyway it brings me great memories so to run there was amazing with great people. The finish line........ it is further away than you think when you get to the arch do NOT sprint as you may actually die amazing race still buzzing now.

This was a very nice event; friendly, well-organised. I showed up on the day with my sister, who had entered, and it was no problem to get a late race entry. I loved the course, quite challenging due to its hilliness, but very well suited for this run and for the number of people. The water stop was at the right point (for me at least) and the lion medal a nice gift at the finish line. Full marks to the organisers.

I really enjoyed the course especially as I dont do hills, the other runners made the course enjoyable and the hills provided some entertainment between some of us runners! The only thing I will say though is some of the marshalls werent very encouraging, a lot of runners were thanking them as they ran past but not much back from them but other Marshalls where amazing and provided a lot of encouragement on the course which is a massive boost when your not only tackling a tough course but you dont have many supporters dotted around to cheer you on. Saying that I would do this again, want to see if I can beat those hills rather then them beating me

5th time running this event and this year 209 appear to have sorted some of the niggles which delayed the start times in previous years. This time everything went as planned, well marshalled parking, easy collection of numbers and the race started on time. The announcer did a good job of getting the runners ready and kept the atmosphere going with lots of encouragement for runners as they started the second lap. Usual goody bag stuff and a nice bespoke lion medal. The course is tough with 3 proper hills but the downhill finish in front the Longleat house makes it worthwhile - Id say most runners will clock about 5% slower than on a flat 10k so not a PB course. Only thing stopping this race getting 5 stars was the traffic leaving which took a long time as we were sent out the back way by the marshals which isnt really suitable for lots of traffic.
