Easy to find, great parking around the start, excellent HQ, Very testing course with an amazing downhill finish and.... fantastic cake and tea.

A really well organised race with great marshal's. I've done this race twice now and I've enjoyed it both times. Dress for the conditions as its normally quite cold. Don't be fooled by the race title Meltham (tough) 10k.....its exactly what it says it is.

Its a tough course with a good mix of steep hills and level sections . The last 2k is a very fast downhill section which makes up for the tough hills. Lovely coffee and cakes at the end back in the club house.

A challenging but rewarding course, a good event to test post Christmas fitness for me! The weather is always a factor, this year it was relatively kind, windy but warm. The marshalls were a reassuring presence and very supportive. On the down side, the strong wind put paid to any chance of grabbing a drink halfway round as the plastic cups kept blowing away, I decided to continue my run without water rather wait and be delayed. The comparatively low entry fee makes this event affordable for me. I'll be back next year, as long as I can stay fit.

My first 10k race ever, and boy it was tough. Very hilly and that strong headwind made running a challenge. All the marshals were friendly and encouraging has was the fellow racers. Will I be back in 2019? I hope so

A friendly, well-organised and superbly-marshalled event. It's hilly, but that makes it more interesting than most 10ks and the reward is a seriously long downhill dash to the line. All in all, a great event to kick off the year and highly recommended.

This is the second time I have done this race. It is a well-organised club race by the very welcoming Meltham AC. The cost of the event is reflected by this - no big companies trying to make money!!! The course is well marshalled, and there is no way you can get lost. The roads are not closed, but there is a lead car (not that I saw it!!), and there are plenty of marshals slowing down traffic. It is a challenging course, and given the time of year you are not guaranteed perfect weather but don't let this put you off. Some years there is a bit of ice, some years rain, some years wind, and sometimes the lot!! BUT there has been years when the event has been postponed due to weather, so rest assured the organisers and race director do consider safety of runners. There are great facilities available before and after the event too at race headquarters (cricket club). Refreshments of all kinds are available. There are parking areas, but you do need to remember that if you park at the club you will have to wait until the race is over before you can safely drive away.My only criticism (if you can call it that) was the number collection. People dutifully joined a queue to collect race numbers only to be told when you got to the front of the queue you needed to look at posters "over there" to find your number first. At the time I collected my number only one person was giving out numbers, so the queue was getting pretty long - this may have been resolved as time went on. This is why I gave a 4 (out of 5) here... More people dishing out numbers, and people telling the queue what the process was would have been helpful.Without doubt this has to be on your "to do" list.... ok so you won't get a 10k PB but you will get to run a challenging course, with a great race atmosphere. Lots of local support for this race from a host of running clubs, so a great opportunity to meet up with old friends and make some new ones. The last mile is the best feeling ever!! A super downhill just to bring your average race pace back to something respectable!

Returning this time for my 4th year, I was not disappointed. This is my favourite event in the race calendar and a great one to kick off the year. A great little local 10k with a friendly atmosphere. The testing course has a great balance of uphill and downhill - always feeling like more than the 600ft elevation, but always rewarding on the last mile of downhill to the finishing straight. Weather conditions this year proved to be the most difficult part. Several runners - myself included - thought they were on track for a course PB after a fast start to the race. However it soon became clear, after emerging from the first big hill, that the weather had other ideas. Runners were hit by a wall of wind, threatening their chances of putting in a good time. This being said, the unique fast mile to finish was the talking point of most runners at the end and everyone had good things to say. After finishing, I stuck around to cheer runners in and most finished with a smile on their face. The route is fantastic, the Marshalls were amazing, the organisation was perfect and there was beer. Yes, all runners received a bottle of home brewed beer. What more could you want

Really good run, tough was a good description. Well organised maybe a few more Marshalls would have been good. There were very few spectators but it was cold wet and windy.

Melthan 10K is always a great ice-breaker (sometimes literally!) for the New Year and 2018 was no exception. For the runner recovering from the excesses of Christmas there is nothing quite like Meltham 10K to focus the mind onto the training levels required for safe passage through the running year ahead. As ever, the organisation was superb from registration through to crossing the finishing line. There were sufficient marshals en-route who all gave clear instruction to runners as they progressed around the course. The prize of a bespoke beer at the end is also ideal for a real ale fan like myself (there are only so many t-shirts you can fit in a cupboard anyway!)As this is Meltham, the weather plays its part and 2018 was no exception. Having run the race previously in almost perfect conditions (2016!!) I intuitively 'gave it my all' over the first uphill 2.5km knowing full well that the turn back onto Blackmoorfoot Road would give respite to my tired legs. How wrong was I? The headwind on the next 5km as I fought my way down (and then up and down) Blackmoorfoot Road was Meltham's "surprise" feature this year. I can honestly say it is the first time I have had to work harder at running fast downhill than uphill! Thankfully, the last 2.5km are essentially downhill and the wind was absent, so it was possible to recoup some time and finally 'rest' my legs a bit. For the pub spotters who may read this, it was great to see The Traveller's Rest reopened as I sprinted past on the final downhill. The only slight criticism may be the lack of chip timing this year, but 2018 was not a year for PB's anyway, and with so many regular runners using GPS watches anyway, it is of no real detriment to the race. All in all, a great event and, body permitting, I'll be back in 2019. Let's see what the weather offers then!

This was my first ever 10k race and I loved it. I'm pretty new to running but I am local to the event and so know those hills all too well from my training runs. Well organised and the other runners were very friendly. The marshals were very encouraging, especially towards the end.

If you're looking for a challenging 10k this is definitely the race for you. Lots of hills and changing weather conditions combine to make it the toughest road race I've ever done but if you can do this you can do any. Well marshalled and the special edition beer was way better than a medal.

Pretty brutal. Hilly and windy, a tough race but happy to make sub 50mins. Marshalling could have been better esp on busy road sections but generally ok. Great turnout given the weather and good atmosphere.

I enjoyed the course and race event as a whole great people and a really hard challenge at the beginning of the year for me which i enjoyed. But my personal opinion i didnt like the momento because i dont drink alcohol i would of loved some gloves or a hat instead, something that fits the course. But the main issue i had with the event is that when i finished and saw the results i was not stephen reilly but matthew rhodes. So in the results they got my name wrong, if this could be changed that would be much appreciated. And i hope this feedback helps thank you
