Mendip Muddle

The Mendip Muddle is our toughest race. Held over 20km (12 miles) of the finest Mendip Hills, the course is hilly (there’s 420m of climb) and set in some of the finest scenery in the West Country. There are Roman lead mines, underground rivers, a nature reserve, open moorland, potholes, an ancient rabbit warren, an Iron Age fort and prehistoric tumuli. You will run past Velvet Bottom, Rhino Rift, Beacon Batch, Twin Brooks, Dolebury, Rowberrow Bottom, Tyning's, Black Down and Rains Batch. All but 2km of the course is off a road and it can get a little boggy in places so make sure you bring your off-road shoes.

Did the race in 2018
Definitely a trail shoe race and preferably an old pair if you can. Plenty of mud, bog and water to run through. Having completed this race for the first time in 2017, I felt much more prepared for the challenges that lay ahead. Whilst there's water stations, bring your own snacks if you like a nibble out on the course. Weston Hospicecare's post race tea, cake and refreshments afterwards are worth saving some room for though! Finishers get a unique neck fairer rather than a medal which makes a nice change too! Bring warm spare clothes & towel as there are changing facilities. Overall, a challenging and picturesque course to enjoy.

A really well organised race. There are showers at the activity center where registration takes place so bring a towel and some dry clothes for after the race - you will be muddy! Also tea, cake, soup and hot dogs to help you warm up, so bring some cash - money raised goes to the chosen charity. The course passes through some beautiful country side. A really enjoyable hilly off road race.

It was a hard course, but very enjoyable at the same time. I would definitely do it again.
