JUNOIR RACE

How do I register?

To register, simply turn up on the day of the event and visit ‘Race Registration’ from 1pm. One of our friendly registration crew will sign you up and provide you with a t-shirt and race number.

How much does it cost?

The Junior Race can be entered on Race Day from 1pm at the registration area in the Race Village. A suggested £3 donation to the New Forest Marathon Community Fund that funds and inspires activity throughout the area.

What age can run?

Any age between 5 and 12 years old (1k) as well as an under 5’s 200m event.

Can adults run with juniors?

Of course you can, sharing the experience is fully encouraged, a great one for the memory bank!

How far is it?

The course uses the same start and finish as the main event races. We think it’s important that juniors get the same feel running up and down the amazing start finish straight as all the other runners. The course winds around the race village for about 1 kilometre.

This year we also have a shorter 200m course (Under 5’s) running down the famous New Forest Marathon final straight and under the Start/Finish bridge.
Kit List

Normal running gear is perfect for this event.

Spectators

A short walk away from the car park there are two good locations to view the runners:

Half Marathon/Full Marathon: On foot, turn right out of the carpark on Brockenhurst high street, walk through the village centre, then turn right onto Rhinefield Road. Continue up this road until you reach Beechern Wood Car Park. There is open forest in which to view (10 mins walk ) This point is mile 9.5 (Half Marathon/Full Marathon) and also mile 24 (Full Marathon).

Full Marathon: Turn right through village centre and turn left onto Burley Road. There’s a green area on the left hand side with plenty of room to watch the runners rather than staying on the road. This point is mile 10.5 where the runners will cross the road and take a track through the forest toward Brockenhurst primary school (Full Marathon).

FAQs

Where do I park my car when arriving on race day?

New Park Showground has extensive parking on site so there’s plenty of room for everyone. We ask for a small fee of £5 per car to park all day.

Is there a shuttle bus operating from Brockenhurst Railway Station to the Race Village?

Yes we have a New Forest Marathon Shuttle Bus operating from Brockenhurst Railway Station to New Park Showground (Race Village) on Sunday September 8th. The shuttle bus timetable and prices for 8th September 2019 will be available soon.

Can I enter if I am not a member of a team or club?

Yes of course, one of our aims is to encourage as many people to be active as possible. We know that the New Forest has the highest percentage of active people but also the highest proportion of obesity in the county. It is imperative to us to offer events that so runners of all levels can enjoy the beautiful New Forest. There are training guides found on the training zone section of this site for all distances. You will find this particularly useful if you are a new runner. We have support from NHS Choices who have supplied excellent content guiding you from your first steps to 5k and beyond.

You certainly don’t need to be a member of a running club, or an official team, in order to participate in our races. Simply leave the ‘Team/Club Name’ blank on the entry form and run as an unattached runner. If you are unattached or your club is not affiliated to UK Athletics you pay a slightly higher entry fee which makes sure you are properly insured for this event.

How old do I have to be to compete?

On race day you must be 18 years or over to run the full marathon and 17 years or over to run the half marathon. For the 10k 15 years or over and the 5k 11 years or over. However for those Juniors who are 8yrs – 10yrs they can enter the 5k if accompanied by an adult, see entry page for further detail. The Junior Race 1k is open to 5 years upwards and the Junior 200m to any age as we wish to inspire everyone to take part including buggies and parents.

Is there more than one 5k Race?

There is only one New Forest Marathon 5k Race which includes Junior 8yrs-10yrs, Junior 11yrs-16yrs and Adults. All start at the same time.

Will New Forest Marathon accept any late entries on race day?

All entries must be received online and with payment in full, by 1st August 2019 as stated on the entry form. However, if space allows we will do our best to find a solution. We reserve the right to close entries if a race is Sold Out before this date. The 2017 and 2018 events were a complete sell out.

  • Did the Marathon in 2019

This has to be the best half marathon course I have run, would like to do the marathon. The getting to the venue would put me off going again, although I probably will. I stayed overnight close by to get there early and would rather have driven down on the day.
  • Did the Marathon in 2019

Fantastic event marred slightly by stalls not taking credit cards and traffic problems. Would recommend for all abilities.
  • Did the Marathon in 2019

I can’t fault this event. This was my first half marathon and I wanted a memorable place and I certainly got that! The organisation was incredible- faultless and the atmosphere was superb. From the volunteers, the organisers the runners ourselves and the crowds. E retune was so lovely, friendly, helpful and wow the stunning router was just divine. There were plenty of water stops and directions were clear. They put funny signs up to spur us on and I just loved it all. A day to remember and I would definitely recommend this.
