Route information
Terrain: Public Footpaths - Trail
Elevation: 950m / 550m
These challenging 50k and 23k courses will take place along the trails within Leeds. Great Owl Running have designed their events to bring a community of like-minded people together, to share in what they love to do, run.
There will be plenty of climbs in both routes but see below at what points the most challenging climbs will come so you can prepare best on how to approach the course.
The course will be marked with time, but it is ultimately the responsibility of the runners to navigate the course successfully. It is recommended by the event organiser to take the time to recce the route before race day.
50k
The biggest climb of this 50k route will come in the second half of the race, at around the 35k mark.
There will be 5 checkpoints on the route for the 50k course.
50k Relay
The relay race will follow the exact same course as the 50k route, but divided into 4 legs:
  • Leg One: 14k Eccup to Thorner
  • Leg Two: 14k Thorner to Eccup
  • Leg Three: 10k Eccup to Chevin
  • Leg Four: 13k The Chevin to Eccup
23k
This course will begin with a steady increasing incline, up until the halfway point. At around the 13k mark, there will be a sweeping descent, immediately followed by a steep incline climb.
There will be 2 checkpoints on the route for the 23k course.
10k
Elevation: 200m / 1800ft
This route will be hilly but will be an ideal course for all that are new to trail running. Come to explore the fantastic scenery and give trail running a go.

By Car
This location is accessible by car.
Parking
The nearest public car park to the start is the Golden Acre Park - East, situated 1 mile away.
By Train
Eccup is roughly 7 miles from Leeds city centre. Unfortunately, this venue is not easily accessible by public transport. Horsforth train station will get you closer to The New Inn, however, this is still 4 miles away.
Relay Race
The start point for each leg of the race will be different. Please note that teams are expected to organise transport between themselves. Car Parking / on-street parking will be widely available at each changeover point.

13:00 Cut off time for the Eastern Loop (28k out of 50k)
*Please arrive at least 45 minutes before the start to allow plenty of time to register, attach your race number, drop your bag and warm up.
Race Pack
You must collect your race pack on the morning of race day from the registration desk. Your race pack will include your race number, timing chip and pins to attach your number to the front of your top.
Cut-off Times
Runners of the 50k race must complete THe Eastern Loop (28k) and make it back to Race HQ to start the second loop within 4 hours. There will be no more cut-off times after this.
There are no cut-off times for the relay or trail courses.
Bag Drop
There are varying rules surrounding the bag drop, depending on the race you enter. They are as follows:
  • 50k - Bag drop at halfway (Race HQ)
  • 23k and relay - No bag drop (runners must carry everything they need with them throughout)
Cupless
Please be aware that this is a cupless event, meaning you must bring your own water container with you to the race. There will be water refills at the stations on the course.
Plant a Tree
When entering this event, you will have the choice to pay £5 more for your entry to plant a tree.
