About
Wirral Seaside Runs is a series of six races of 5 km, organised by Pensby Runners. The runs are held monthly from March to August each year. The races are very popular with club runners and also beginners and joggers and have become a permanent fixture on the running scene of Merseyside over the last 30 years. Although there is no formal cut off time it is expected that new ‘seasiders’ will aim to complete the three miles within 45 minutes.

Route information
It is a flat and fast course and provides a regular indicator of fitness and performance. The 5km route starts from Leasowe Lighthouse and travels along the sea front to Harrison Drive. It is run almost entirely on the concrete sea embankment with a short section of rough track in the middle. There is usually a good wind from behind but we can’t guarantee that for any race!
What's included
Awards are made each season for any competitor completing 5 out of 6 races. In 2017 we introduced more prizes for competitors and also a league for the six races, with prizes for some age categories.
A photographer is onsite to capture the winners etc, and we have recently had a request for a drone to follow the run, it will be great to see the action in video.
How to get there
Leasowe Lighthouse, Lingham Ln, Birkenhead, Greasby, Wirral CH46 4TA, UK
Get full directionsIf travelling by car there is parking available at Leasowe Lighthouse near to the race start and registration. However, this is not a circular race route so you’ll need to figure out how to get back from the finish!
Those travelling by train, Moreton is the closest Merseyrail station to the start, and Wallasey Grove Road is closest to the race finish. Please note that these two stations are on different lines so you may need to change at Birkenhead North depending on your route.
Event day logistics
Registration begins 1 hour before and closes 10 minutes prior to the start of the race. Entry is online only and numbers should be collected on the day from inside Leasowe Lighthouse (see location and route) and we setup about 1 hour before the race starts. We recommend you collect your number 30 minutes before the start of the race to give yourself plenty of time.
Races will be chip timed.
FAQs
What are the weather conditions normally like?
Being a coastal race the weather can have a big influence on times. We often have a tail-wind but obviously this cannot be guaranteed! The BBC weather forecast for Wallasey can give a good indication of race conditions.
Are there facilities onsite?
Toilets are available a short distance away from Leasowe Lighthouse towards the race start position at the junction between Leasowe Road and Pasture Road.
What is the usual field size?
The races have become increasingly popular and we typically have around 250 runners, but we do have a maximum of 500!
