Did the race in 2019
A zig zag after the start along the main road through Dolgarrog before joining the key climb up the 'pipe steps'. A tough initial climb, but once at the top of the valley side, the route followed one of the water pipes clockwise with some excellent views to and away from the Conwy Valley. The second mile was a continual climb up broken tracks and stiles before reaching the maximum elevation. The descent began on open Moor, onto a service Road, then another stile back onto grass tracks before entering a technical descent through woodland. Leaving the woodland was a final section down a steep concrete Road before a blast to the finish on the main road once again. Probably the best value racing money can buy, and free soup and a roll at the finish too!

As a first time participant of this particular race I only knew of what was involved (a pipe) friends that I travelled with on the day gave me some scary images of the pipe then once we arrived and registered went for a quick recce and wow what an accent of steps! Once we were set loose we made our way down the tarmac road before turning left up toward the pipe, a quick scramble to get onto the steps then it was a case of head down and get to the top, personally I loved the steps, once off the steps you follow the pipe for a mile or do (flat grass ish) then hang a hairpin towards the trig point, that's when the fun starts, down hill through mud, forest, stones and small rocks, technical running at speed before you hit the tarmac for your final decent before hanging a right onto the pavement for a final 250meters sprint to the finish... Great run, great marshals good marking and lots of cake, tea, soup and sandwiches at the community hall at the end... Stick this one in your diary..

These are races that are organised on no profit basis and money made goes to the local community. This is a very well organized race for a cost of just 4 and you get a mug of soup when you finish. I never miss this race , can't wait for the next one. If you haven't done it sign up for next year's race.
