About
Join us for the Polar Bear Challenge! This is a 6 hour running event at Ryton Pools Country Park. How far is the race? You decide! The 3.3-mile out and back loop at Ryton Pools Country Park means your race can be just over 5k or, given the relatively flat nature of the course, potentially 49.5 miles! You decide how many laps you're going to do on the day within the 6-hour time limit. If you're looking to cover a marathon distance, you'll need to complete 8 laps (26.4 miles) and a half marathon will be 4 laps (13.2 miles).

Route information
The course is relatively flat with a few little rises that you might not notice much on the first lap, but you might do at the end of 6 hours! Underfoot is crushed stone with a very small section of single track and a few areas that are a little looser than others. It is a very runnable course.

Get full directionsExternalLink
To get to Ryton Pools Country Park, use the post code CV8 3BG for Sat Navs. It's 15 minutes south of Coventry and 15 minutes from Junction 16 of the M1.
You do have to pay to park (£3 at the time of writing). This money goes directly to the country parks, they are great spaces that do need money and this is their main revenue stream. That said, be a hero and car share, save money and the world!
The closest train stations are Rugby and Coventry.

Big Bear Events
The majority of our events are challenge events - multi-lap races with a time limit rather than a set distance. This means people can run all different distances on the same day, making for a great atmosphere. Lapped events can get some negative feedback but our laps are around beautiful locations. We avoid out and back laps and coming back to the wonderful aid station (full of your requests) can be a good motivator. Whether it's your A race, you need to do some long training runs, you have a 100-mile ultra in a few weeks or you want to hammer out a quick 10k, our races allow everyone to get involved together. We’re also expanding our mid-week evening 10K series too. Keep an eye out for updates on these as we are continually adding more. Expect the same care and attention and in the same great locations!

Sort of! We have held 2 Big Bear Challenges here, this will be the first Polar Bear Challenge but it's the same in all but name! This will be part of our Bear Series.
