How far is the race?

You decide! The 2.8-mile off-road loop means your race can be just under 5k or even over 50k and anywhere in between. You decide how many laps you're going to do on the day within the 6-hour time limit. If you're looking to cover a marathon distance, you'll need to complete 10 laps (28 miles) and a half marathon will be 5 laps (14 miles).

Poplar Challenge route

The course is mainly on a crushed stone pathway, with some sections on grass pathways. There is one notable climb to the top of the Forest Park, with a corresponding notable downhill! The rest of the course is relatively flat, however, allowing for some spectacular views across the lakes. There is even a section through the pine forest.

Each lap has around 170ft of elevation, making the marathon distance 1700ft of elevation.

#15

Big Bear Events are ranked #15 in the UK out of 561 organizers

The majority of our events are challenge events - multi-lap races with a time limit rather than a set distance. This means people can run all different distances on the same day, making for a great atmosphere. Lapped events can get some negative feedback but our laps are around beautiful locations. We avoid out and back laps and coming back to the wonderful aid station (full of your requests) can be a good motivator. Whether it's your A race, you need to do some long training runs, you have a 100-mile ultra in a few weeks or you want to hammer out a quick 10k, our races allow everyone to get involved together. We’re also expanding our mid-week evening 10K series too. Keep an eye out for updates on these as we are continually adding more. Expect the same care and attention and in the same great locations!

I don't know about'what hills'. One in particular was definitely a hill, could have been a mountain. Even so, the friendliness and the pit stops. made up for all the pain. Here's to the next one

The Big Bear Events Neve fail to disappoint & the Poplar Challenge was no different. It was and interesting course, undulating, amazing scenery & enough cross over points that you saw plenty of other participants. The volunteers were second to none and the feed station top notch!

This was my first Big Bear event and I really enjoyed the challenging course and the friendly atmosphere created by the organises and those taking. I would certainly recommend this event and wish I could do more but limited by work commitments.

This was my first big bear event. There was such a friendly and warm vibe given by those taking part. I run at sense valley all the time so it was so lovely to do an event there ( and new ideas to navigate round the park). I will definitely be looking into taking part in another 6 hr event organised by big bear.

Another great race from a fantastic organiser. The course was tough with two very steep hills each lap and some tricky muddy sections, but as always a great atmosphere and an aid station worth running the course for.
